Title: CA ZEV and rebate statistics
Post by: Richard230 on October 25, 2013, 01:37:46 PM
According to an article in today's newspaper, there are about 50,000 zero-emission vehicles roaming the roads of California, most of which are battery-powered cars.  To date, more than 37,000 EV rebates have been dispersed by the CA Rebaters.  Nearly 5,400 rebates have been issued in Santa Clara County, the heart of Silicon Valley.  Interestingly, $36 million still remains in the state's clean-vehicle rebate fund. The greatest number of rebates were handed out last month, 2,007.  By 2025, California hopes to have 1.5 million ZEVs on the state's highways, according to an announcement made yesterday.  Other than handing out rebates, I didn't hear how the state plans to accomplish that task if the public doesn't purchase the vehicles.   ::)

No mention was made of how many electric motorcycles have been sold in the state.

The Progressive Motorcycle Show starts today and I plan to attend tomorrow.  Unfortunately, it does not appear that either Brammo or Zero will have exhibits at the show.     :(

Although I only kept my 2012 Zero S for two years before buying a new 2014 Zero S, instead of the required 3 years, I went ahead and filed for the $900 California EV motorcycle rebate anyway.  I just received confirmation that my rebate request was approved and I would be receiving a check within the next 90 days - assuming that new Tesla owners don't suck up all of the money first.  ;)

It looks like I got to the trough in time.  I received my $900 rebate from the California Center For Sustainable Energy yesterday.   :)

Good news, Richard! I love it when the Bureaucracy is inefficient enough to let the right thing happen. ;)

While at my dealer today, having my Zero motor recall performed (my motor passed its "stress test"), the sales lady told me that the CA rebaters have run out of money and need to refill their kitty again.  She told me that she didn't think that anyone who didn't already have a rebate commitment would have to wait until August or September to receive their rebate.  Apparently it didn't take long for the brisk sales of electric autos in California to suck up the rebate pot and now the pot needs to be refilled, which seems to take some time to accomplish.
