Plus, the babes.  You get the love from the women who like motorcycles, and the women who don't like motorcycle but want to save the world.  I'm only slightly kidding.

Unfortunately it only seats one, so once you get the "babe", she can't come along for the ride lol

Is it still a bike if it has 3 wheels lol?

In response to original poster, I now see the relevance of having the headlight on all the time.  I'll design my own LED light  weather it "road legal" or not.  Unfortunelty I'm not moving until December and wont be buying until spring.

that said, i still drive like i'm invisible...cages will always try and kill you when you are on 2 wheels (or three :) )

What do you mean by cages

i dont see the benefit in bright sunlight.  I really don't think it increases visibility when it is bright out.

Ever drive through a shadow of a building or a tree?  You're free to do your own research, but I feel pretty comfortable saying that it's likely there are many studies proving that the added visibility of DRLs or headlights make them worth having on all the time.

I see the benefit of tail lights, but not sold on headlights...maybe for motorcycles its a bigger deal because of the left turn thing.

Obviously it depends on driving conditions, but how often do you need to clean it roughy

I'm already under my BMI by 10 pounds, so I'm already making the bike more efficent.  As for having your light on, is that a legal requierment or a bramo requierment?  I generlay drive with lights on in my car when there is any cloudy rainy foggey etc conditions, but i dont see the benifit in bright sunlihgt.  I really dotn think it increases visibility when it is bright out.

Are the stock brakes not good enough?

The fuse for the headlight is bigger then the use for several other systems implying it uses more power.  I'd like to do 2 things.  Build an LED headlight myself. (who cares if its 100% legal or not)  Also add a switch to disable it during the day.  i want tail lights during the day, but the head light seems useless.  Although I haven't been on one yet, maybe it does really help make you more visible.

if 4000watt hours - 40 miles then 100 watt hours = 1 mile.  At 50 watts, in an hour you could gain an extra half mile.  Doesn't seem like much, but its 1025% increase in range.  When you drive 50,000 miles you didn't pay for over 500 miles.  It all adds up.

What happened to the good old day when you stepped on the gas and you engine actually got gas lol.  All the computer is doing is keeping you from giving the engine way more then it needs so your acceleration is more efficient.  If you know how to drive an old car you can go just as efficiently with no computer.

On the EV side  (or any really powerful motor) there is a risk of damage to certain parts.  The first test driver on the Tesla roadster went to the hospital do to whip lash after his first drive.  They have since added limiters to it's acceleration.  Although the motor and batts technically can handle higher then 65, the rest of the drive train may not have been designed with that in mind.  Messing with acceleration curves could over stress parts like shocks, frame, chain etc.  In the EV world, limiters are there not just to help you drive more efficiently, but to keep you form ripping the thing apart.  Now if they could design it for 75 mph and have you hit a button to go into fast mode that would be awesome.  ofcourse you would not always want to be in that mode because a 65 limiter will encourage you to drive more efficiently.  When a bike goes 75 your not just stressing the motor, but the tires, the chain the brakes etc.

So in short, I think this is more of a design issue then a economy issue.  Also Brammo doesn't want tons of warranty claims so they are not going to let you push the bike any ware near its breaking point.  Assuming someone does figure out how to crack the code, I would use caution before pushing it much above stock.

Brammo Enertia Mods / Re: Hypothetical Solar Panel idea
« on: August 22, 2011, 05:10:45 PM »
Scooter= less power ussage, he probaly lives in a high irradiance area with a short commute.  Those are certainly not 238 pannels like mentioned in my last post.  Use pv watts to figgure out how much you could produce in a day.  Type in about .8 for the derate.  the math just doesn't work for a Brammo.

Thanks for the input guys.  I'm definetly looking into the plus for the extra miles.  I'll take pendots 10 dollar course.  First i need to move into a first floor apartment oso ic an charge it.  I'm pretty sure im getting one as soon as I move though.

Well, you could do it, but should you do it? Part of the experience of owning an electric motorcycle is the knowledge that the bike is not contributing to air pollution... at least from the "tailpipe."  That is certainly one of the most significant advantages of an electric bike for me.  I actually feel a bit guilty getting my electricity from a coal-fired plant, and would (if it were available to me) pay more per kWh for renewable energy.

So sure, you could do this... but you could also drive a Hummer and eat Bald Eagles for dinner (although you'd get arrested for the latter).  I guess you have to ask yourself what's important to you about owning an electric vehicle.

Why would you feel quilty for something that you have no control over? Like a coal-fired powerplant. Did you build it or something? What's wrong with Hummers? I have friends that own them. One runs on diesel and the other gets 25mpg which is better than my Jeep Liberty! That's poor logic! If you ran a Hummer on bio-diesel made locally from waste vegetable oil it would be green. All the schoolbuses in the county where I live run on bio-diesel.

I'm all for doing what we can but we are still bound by reality. I'm currently building a new green passive solar home. I'd love to add a PV system but costs (30K) are way too high to allow this, at this point in time. I'll be using coal-fired electricity, without guilt because that's what's here. Maybe I shouldn't put heat in it because my power comes from a coal-fired plant. I'm sure it's coming to that. Thankfully, I have 107 acres of trees to burn.

What's the problem with trying to extend the range of a motorcycle into something more useful? What's important to me, is not sending anymore money to Saudi Arabia than I have to. Unfortuantely, I have to!

Should I do it? ::)

SamM

First off, new diesels under truck/bus size have particulate filters and won’t run on bio diesel without damage.  I drive a 04 golf for that reason and can upgrade since I run bio diesel.   Also 25 mpg is pathetic.  My golf gets 45 mpg and a diesel minvan still gets 30+.  Hummers are a huge waste of resources room and are only sold to men who need to compensate.  I’d agree with the second poster, the whole idea is to not be using fuel and polluting by driving an electric bike.  Theoretically you need a 4k gen to keep running nonstop.  Not to mention the additional weight would give you worse mileage.  I would consider charging from an rv that is already running to get you to some ware.

Brammo Enertia / Re: First Contact
« on: August 19, 2011, 03:42:37 PM »
I just contacted the dealership in Pa and she told me I could test drive it around their lot even though i have no motorcycle license and have never been on one.  She did however refer me to bramo.com instead of answering my questions.  (brammo, you really need a comparison page to show the difference between the bikes, it took me an hour to figure out that the enertia and enertia plus only differ by range)  she didn’t seem supper knowledgeable but definitely wasn’t trying to up sell me to a Harley.  (Brommo please DON’T close this branch, I want to buy one lol)  All in all I didn’t think she did a bad job on the phone.  Maybe it would help if brammo reps went out to hold a seminar and train staff of the different stores.

Brammo Enertia / Considering buying one and want to know the truth
« on: August 19, 2011, 03:28:13 PM »
Hi guys,
I want to buy one but want to make sure it will fit my needs.

How many miles per charge do you really get?  Have you ever run out?
How fast does it really go?  If i only weigh 150, will it go over 60 mph?
How comfortable is the ride for a decently long trip.
How visible Is it, do you worry about being run over by a truck, it seems pretty small
How bad is the milage when you take it on a 55 mile and hour road?
Does is tell you your expeced range left or just have a gadge?

I’m coming from never riding a motorcycle but wanting the most efficient commuting vehicle when weather is favorable.  Also I want to reduce the miles I’m putting on my ’04 VW golf that runs biodiesel and has 240,000 miles on it.

Thanks,
Cody
