Operation: HogWatch
« on: July 07, 2011, 09:41:10 AM »
Spinning off of FreepZ's thread here, and Phantom's generous offer to pay a visit to the Massachusetts dealer (and possibly Rhode Island), I've decided it's time to organize a brigade of Brammo Owners Forum members to perform dangerous reconnaissance missions that, collectively, I have dubbed, "Operation Hogwatch."

The mission of Operation Hogwatch is to infiltrate the enemy visit your local Harley-Davidson/Brammo dealer and inquire about the Brammo Enertia for sale.

Here is what we'd like to know (thanks again to FreepZ for his detailed report which provides a great framework for all of this):
1. The Enertia on display: What condition is it in? Any visible damage? What is the state of charge at the point you first encounter it (assuming the dash is on).
2. Test ride: Do they allow it? If not, why not?  Any issues with the ride?
3. Information from salesman: Does the salesman seem to know what he/she is talking about? Any attempt to upsell you to a Harley? Any blatantly wrong information?

Feel free to add more questions/areas of inquiry as you see fit.

I'd suggest that, on your visit, you play the part of someone who is not in the elite brain trust represented by the members of this forum.  Rather, you are someone who heard something about an electric motorcycle and thought it might be something you could ride back and forth to work.

Here are the dealers.  I left the "old timers" (Best Buy, Hollywood Electrics) on here, just in case anyone wants to visit and report back.  We've had other reports that Best Buy doesn't do very well unless you get the right salesman, and that Hollywood Electrics has excellent knowledge of the product, but feel free to visit and report back, here.  I've taken the liberty of putting Phantom's name next to the Massachusetts dealership and Rhode Island.  As people let me know their availability, I will add them next to the dealership's name.

Let us know if you're willing to take this on - I think this is the kind of thing that Brammo would be interested in knowing, and it would certainly help anyone who might be considering purchasing an electric motorcycle.

I would love to help out here but Brammo has no stores even remotely close to Denver. Would really like to hear news about Brammo opening a store here in Colorado. They would sell well here considering the tax breaks we get for EVs. I have submitted 2 fantastic dealerships that Brammo could look into. Hopefully Brammo is listening / working on it.

I can probably check out H-D of Washington.  I haven't been able to get much time to myself recently so it may be a few weeks before I make it over there, but, then again, it is right across the river from me

Did not know Suderia West in S.F. was a dealer. Hope I get some solid info on Empulse soon 'cause that Victory Vegas 8Ball looks really, really, I mean REALLY nice :P
I think there are 2 HD stores in Antioch/Oakley area. Have they been approached? Should be more along Hwy 4/East Bay commute stomp. Any action in this(my) area? :)

Ah, Mr. Rodgers... I saw from the Brammo Owners Forum Map that you were pretty close to the Washington, Maryland HD dealer.  Thanks for volunteering - when you can - we look forward to your report.

I don't know if the dealers have been approached.  Have you requested that Brammo approach them?
If not, try it here:

I'm still perplexed by the Frederick Dealership...totally understand the Washington, MD one as it will serve Wash DC and Alexandra, VA....but Frederick? It has been years since I lived in Maryland, but gah, Frederick was basically a cowtown in the middle of nowhere...

Now a dealership in Baltimore, Cool...makes sense...good size city with lots of people working and living in town or living in the suburbs and commuting to town...electric bike for the win...

But an Enerita with 40 miles of range makes no sense at all in Frederick. Or anywhere near Frederick. Even the Plus would be hard pressed to do a commute to either Baltimore or DC as both are about 50 miles by highway...

Actually the one nice thing about Frederick is that it is basically equal distance to Baltimore or DC....sadly that equal distance is 50 freaking miles...a long commute unless you live in Cali where everybody seems to drive WAY TOO FAR to get from home to work :)

I'm still perplexed by the Frederick Dealership...

There could be different scenarios where this makes sense. I am thinking that they may have asked Brammo to be a dealer when the news came out. The new Director at Brammo may have a very specific connection at that particular dealership. You could have salespeople there who are really excited at the prospect of selling Brammo motorcycles.

I am looking at it from the "glass is half full" point of view.

A dealership's geographic distance certainly makes sense, but I think are other factors are involved in this specific scenario.

Probably, it was the closest dealership from Baltimore that would sell Brammo. Don't forget that, just because the dealership is in Frederick, it doesn't mean that people who buy there will actually live there.
The HD dealership in Staunton attracts hogs from all over the place, inclusively people from towns with their own HD dealerships because they offer better service.
Also, I live in a cowtown in the middle of nowhere and I think I have tons of use for an Empulse. My commute is just 5 minutes and there are two larger towns (Harrisonburg and Staunton) less than 20 minutes away, which I can get by well-maintained side roads, instead of I-81 if I want.
I actually think some smaller towns might be much better for electric motorcycles than cities. The main reason is that, in the city, speed is not really a factor, so why not an electric scooter? In my area, I need something that makes at least 65 mph without complaining too much.

Man, 42, 33, 257, Reddish Knob, 211(maybe a little ambitious, but worth a try).  I would love to have my Empulse over there!  As a matter of fact, I just might try it with a stop at a friends house along the way

If I can recharge it in Waynesboro, I am pretty sure I can make it all the way to Elkton through the Skyline Drive (51 miles). I am not sure if I can get back home, though. Maybe with the Empulse 10.0.
Anyway, it could be a good excuse to stop for a bite while it recharges... ;)

Has anyone ventured forth on a mission yet?
I'm thinking of calling a few of the shops and asking some questions.

I have a lot of craziness happening with the house right now, but give me a month or so and I can try stopping by these two dealerships in the Scottsdale, Phoenix area.
Even if they don't offer them, and I don't think they do, it might be worthwhile to see what they have to say...

Hacienda Harley Davidson‎
15600 N Hayden Road
Scottsdale, AZ 85260
(480) 905-1903

Buddy Stubbs Arizona Harley-Davidson‎
13850 N Cave Creek Road
Phoenix, AZ 85022
(602) 971-3400

Although I think Ducati dealerships may be good contenders as well... I've stopped by a few of them in the past (while I was struggling with the decision to wait or just get a ducati monster), they always seem to be straight up and friendly...
And as a brand I think Ducati sort of gels better with Brammo than HD... But that's me... What do I know ;)

Ducati Scottsdale‎
15750 N Northsight Blvd # 100
Scottsdale, AZ 85260-1937
(480) 483-0100

Anyone else in the Phoenix area wanna chime in?
