Interesting stuff wonder how fast it will charge in the daytime.

Well, it will charge the headlight and cabin lights pretty well. Oh, and the USB sockets, too.

The solar roof is really just a gimmick when it comes to charging the traction batteries. The best use I ever saw for a solar roof was on an older Prius that I owned. The roof was used to power the HVAC blower motor when the car was parked. Therefore on a hot sunny day, the cabin was cooled to a reasonable temperature when you returned to the car. Beyond that, the stupidest panel I ever saw was on the back spoiler of the Nissan LEAF. It wasn't large enough to do anything at all. And, although it isn't a solar roof, VW used to ship their new vehicles with a solar panel attached to the inside of the windshield to keep the battery charged until the car could be delivered. Tesla could sure use a solar roof to help with all the "vampire" drains they get when parked. That assumes you actually park your Tesla in the outdoors and not in the climate controlled garage :)
