Victory Empulse / Removing lower battery modules
« on: August 26, 2022, 07:28:45 AM »
Korbin and others: do I understand the shop manual correctly (attached) that the lower battery module assembly for the Victory Empulse can be removed w/out removing the upper?

Does anyone know where to find these updated battery module firmware files (see attached software used to update once I have the files):
1. Comm Firmware
2. BMP Firmware
3. BMP Configuration

I have the dongles and connectors for both the CANbus and RS485.

The "Calibration" files are here and described below - but none are for the battery module firmware.

http://polaris.diagsys.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=45

Here are the 6 "Calibration" files and versions

Victory Empulse / Service cables for Victory Empulse TT
« on: August 21, 2022, 09:24:45 PM »
I made the CANbus and RS485 connectors for my Victory Empulse TT. Both work well. The RS485 plugs in directly to the top and bottom battery modules (separately). The CANbus is on the front right side of the bike - there are other posts about this.

RS485:
I followed the directions in this post including downloading the LabView 32-bit runtime software (thanks hackshack and others!): https://brammoforum.com/index.php?topic=4051.msg29217#msg29217

The connector for the Victory Empulse is different from the Brammo Empulse though. For the Victory you need this connector:
Molex # 0334721201, Digi-Key Part Number WM4735-ND: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/molex/0334721201/1756779?utm_medium=email&utm_source=oce&utm_campaign=4251_OCE22RT&utm_content=productdetail_US&utm_cid=2187578&so=77360835&mkt_tok=MDI4LVNYSy01MDcAAAGGTCKL2RlzhabBLOEiIsLzs_lhEMI3Vxg-_Ia8CBKh9ylSvHPfkZI6ZCj7bdtuiAX1XZu8LkAKEVgUbcTgIBGR3h6NXUiSu06YTvjBnabL

You'll also need this contacts: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/molex/0330122022/3184799?utm_medium=email&utm_source=oce&utm_campaign=4251_OCE22RT&utm_content=productdetail_US&utm_cid=2187578&so=77360835&mkt_tok=MDI4LVNYSy01MDcAAAGGTCKL2RmGfzIUNrZ1RmXiPo-E3oCje1jDLz1YnAJS-DOJM70IYAYV512zlcm8jG2-jKHFwdg_lMg7W4MoG1FvFEiS7PWg5pZZAArf_VAe

Watch a quick youtube on how to load the contacts for Molex - will save yourself some frustration! Might want to buy a crimping tool too, though probably could get by w/out it. A paperclip works well for adding/removing the contacts.

For wiring (numbers are on back of the connector):
Pin 2: A+ (black)
Pin 3: B- (white)
Pin 5: +12v (blue, goes to power supply, see below)
Pin 6: Ground (orange, goes to both the USB dongle GND screw terminal and the power supply GND)
Pin 10 and Pin 12 are connected together with a brown wire (essentially grounding the interlock pin)

Note: all other pins are empty (i.e. Pin 1, 7,...) - don't need anything in those pin slots.

I needed a 12V power supply (blue wire, Pin 5) and used the same ground from the power supply as the connector ground (orange wire, Pin 6). See attached image.

For the USB to RS485 dongle (3.3v): https://www.waveshare.com/usb-to-rs232-485-ttl.htm
I also have this one and it worked too (and cheaper!): https://www.waveshare.com/usb-to-rs485.htm

See attached image of software running. Unfortunately I have errors (my bike is dead with B40, see other posts).

I also downloaded this Serial Port Monitor, which allowed me to see what was being sent and received over the RS485 line.
https://www.eltima.com/com-port-monitor-download.html

I'll post the CANbus connector and dongle details later, though it's the same as the Brammo Empulse which can be found on other posts. With the CANbus + IXXAT dongle, I updated the firmware for the VCU, etc. see here: https://brammoforum.com/index.php?topic=4240.msg29186#msg29186

Hi All,

Do the attached module and cell numbers look correct?

The logged data often shows "Module 1" "Module 2" and also "High Cell Num" and "Low Cell Num"

Just want to make sure I understand the correct Module and Cell Nums.

Thanks

Victory Empulse / System Fault A6: AIM Module Not Communicating
« on: August 15, 2022, 10:04:11 AM »
Hi All,

2016 Victory Empulse TT here. Has anyone had the System Fault A6: AIM Module Not Communicating? I read a couple other posts regarding A6 but I'm not even sure what the "Auxiliary Input Module" even is on the Empulse TT.

The bike won't run.

You can see my other recent threads that my bike has had a few faults recently and it's not working. Now the A6 comes on right away with key-on and then after some waiting the B40 is the final blow.

Thanks a lot

Victory Empulse / **WARNING** Keep an eye on your motor temp (MTR)
« on: May 28, 2022, 08:50:54 AM »
**WARNING** Keep a very close eye on the motor temp (MTR on the dash). A single $1 thermistor can go bad and overheat your motor without knowing! Make sure your coolant pump is turning on around 36C.

My MTR temp was 5-10C off for the last couple years but recently went to -20C (like the other posts below).

I found a replacement thermistor on Amazon and while you cannot remove the old one or get as accurate of a reading of motor temp, there is work around that may get me close enough. I'll post once I have fully tested it out.

I have a 2016 Victory Empulse TT with 4k miles, regularly maintained and stored in a non-climate controlled garage.

Brammo Empulse / Swingarm and bar end sliders
« on: June 03, 2020, 09:22:32 PM »
FYI: I just bought Woodcraft Swingarm Spool Sliders (8mm) and Woodcraft Bar End Sliders. They look great, seem to fit well and Woodcraft quality is what I was looking for.

https://www.cyclegear.com/parts/woodcraft-swingarm-spool-sliders

Woodcraft Bar End Sliders fit all Woodcraft bars and bars with a 5/8'' inner diameter. Woodcraft Bar End Siders with weights are designed to reduce handlebar vibration. Sold in pairs.

Brammo Empulse / Black screen, won't turn on but signals and horn works
« on: December 17, 2019, 03:53:17 PM »
2016 Victory Empulse TT that I recently purchased with only a couple hundred miles. Worked super great for the first few rides but this morning:

[-] Won't turn on - nothing on the screen, no noises.
[-] However the horn and turn signals work.
[-] Was on charger for a couple days.

Tests I've done:
[-] Battery voltages are good (fully charged, 100% SOC).
[-] Fuses all good (in the fuse box)
[-] Ignition relay is not receiving 12v at key-on
[-] Looked at log files (USB under seat) and no faults, odd values, etc. up until when the bike suddenly shut off ~8 hours prior to me coming to check on it.

Any advice / thoughts will be greatly appreciated!

Brammo Empulse / Changing speedometer units km/h to mph
« on: November 28, 2019, 04:19:33 PM »
Hi All,

I'm the new owner of the attached Empulse.

Has anyone been able to change the speedometer from km/h (kilometers per hour) to mph (miles per hour)?

[-] The Rider Manual Page 33 says: "Note: To program the LDC to display speed in kilometers per hour, see your authorized dealer" to make the change.

[-] The Service Manual Page 1.14 says "To program the LCD to display speed in kilometers per hour refer to Software."

Thanks a lot

Brammo Empulse / Battery Fault & SERVICE MODE
« on: November 08, 2019, 06:18:58 PM »
Hi All, The log files for a Victory Empulse TT 2016 are showing one fault in charging mode (#1 below) and one in driving mode (#2 below).

Fault #1: After sitting on the charger for a couple days past 100% SOC, the log shows the fault "SYSTEM FAULT B62  : Battery Fault: One or more Heaters Failed". The fault seems to stem from "M2 Heater Current Bad Bits" which as logged this: .... ...!. Once this happened, this fault started.

The heaters seemed to be working just fine for a couple days while it was charging from 75-100% SOC and also worked fine after the motorcycle was turned on/off and driven post-charging.

Fault#2: "SERVICE MODE : Diagnostic Cable Connected" - this shows up continuously but only in the drive log but doesn't seem to impact the ability to drive.

I searched back through the older logs, Fault #2 may be caused by cold ambient temps?! Though this doesn't make a lot of sense.

Has anyone had anything like #1 and #2 above?

Thanks a lot for your help

Brammo Empulse / On the fence: 2016 Victory Empulse TT
« on: October 23, 2019, 09:19:52 PM »
Hi All,

Back in August 2019 I almost bought a 2014 Brammo Empulse R with ~1.5k miles on it but noticed some motor and/or transmission leaking during my overnight test drive (I posted the topic here: https://brammoforum.com/index.php?topic=3819.msg26934#msg26934)

So instead I'm now close to buying a 2016 Victory Empulse TT with just over a 100 miles on it. I was able to get the log files and looks like it was kept properly charged and the High-Low Cell Volts is about 1.5 mV (which seems good). It was only discharged down to SOC 10% briefly one time otherwise has been kept up in the 60-90% most of its stationary life.

Does anyone know if the motor / transmission leaking happens on both the Brammo and Victory bikes? Based on other past posts it seems they both leak though not totally clear. How could they not have noticed and resolved this issue?!

Any other suggestions / thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone for all of your posts - the info on this forum has been extremely helpful.

Brammo Empulse / Oil Leak on 2014 Empulse R
« on: August 24, 2019, 07:28:38 AM »
Just took a 2014 Empulse R for a test ride to possibly purchase. It was a blast but unfortunately I noticed oil leaking on the underside (see pics and red circles highlighting the places that have drips on them).

The pic was taken from the left side of the bike down by the foot peg.

A few more higher-res images here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Afxe8ggRCxJZ59WY8

I read through the forum for various oil leak reports though I'm still not totally sure my situation is the same as others.

Any thoughts / suggestions as to what this leak could be? I haven't bought the bike yet ($4.5k) and probably won't if there's uncertainty with these leaks.

Other details:
-1300 miles on the odometer
-The owner hasn't done any maintenance on it
-Was stored in his apartment fully charged

Thanks everyone - I really appreciate any advice / insight!
