Brammo Empulse / Empulse Real World Range
« on: December 20, 2015, 07:38:12 PM »
Hey guys, I recently went to a dealer selling the Victory Empulse and they seemed to miscommunicate the range of the bike.  How do you answer the question "how much range does it have?"

I'd like to go back and help them communicate this important feature better.

Cheers!

Public test rides for the Energica Ego electric superbike!  Even if you don't go for a test ride, it would be sweet to have a critical mass of electric motorcycle riders around to answer random questions.

Off Topic / KICK GAS movie April 22!!!
« on: April 15, 2014, 06:20:24 PM »
KICK GAS the movie will be released on April 22, 2014 and will be available to see on Amazon.com and at KickGas.tv! The movie follows a group of people crossing the USA in an attempt to set 4 Guinness World Records on all electric vehicles including a Nissan Leaf, a Zero S electric motorcycle, two Xenon electric scooters and an A2B electric bicycle. Follow 10 people (including me) on our journey as we battle weather, fatigue, charging infrastructure and popped tires to make it from Charleston, SC to Google Headquarters in Mountain View, CA.

I even got the chance to ride with Gavin up and down Sandia Mountain in NM, which was a real treat!  Then after the trip I met Jeff in San Francisco.

The trailer and an interview with the film director can be found using this link. Check it out!

Trip Reports / 500 mile weekend ride in 31 hours
« on: October 16, 2013, 07:17:00 AM »
Thought you guys would be interested in an electric motorcycle trip I took last weekend.

I took advantage of a 3 day weekend to ride from NYC to DC on my 2012 Zero S carrying 2 Elcon 2500W chargers.  I planned out my stops so I could travel at highway speeds and charge using Chargepoint stations, which allow me to track the charging status.  Overall I traveled 487.4 miles through NJ, DE, MD and DC.  Weather was mid-60's during the day, upper 50's at night.

Average Speed - 55mi/hr
Charging - 1.5 hrs per stop

Battery life
From NYC to DC: 7.4mi/battery bar (there are 11 battery bars, this was with consistent wind at my back)
From DC to NYC: 6.1mi/battery bar (consistent wind in my face, average speed slightly higher, like )

Approx 4.5hr riding time
Approx 4.5hr charging time
Total: 9hr traveling

The whole trip was beautiful since it is autumn and I caught up on some phone conversations while waiting.

When I got to DC I went swing dancing at night, slept, then went to brunch with a friend at Founding Farmer's in Foggy Bottom.  I'd like to try a 24 hour ride for distance, but that will probably have to wait until next spring when the weather warms up and I have some time.

I planned out the stops using Plugshare ahead of time and called the guy who has a charger in his home in Delaware.

Here are the legs of my trip:
69.4mi - 6.5kWh - Montclair, NJ to Rutgers EcoComplex
60.8mi - 6.4kWh (estimate) - Rutgers EcoComplex to Delaware home
58.0mi - 6.4kWh - Delaware home to White Marsh Park and Ride (Baltimore)
52.6mi - White Marsh Park and Ride (Baltimore) to DC destination

All the electricity was free except in DC where I paid $15 for parking and $3.00 for the charge.

Brammo Empulse / Empulse charger

What is the 3kW charger used on the Empulse?

It is very compact and I'd like to see if it can be found online and possibly used as an external charger.

Group Rides And Meetups / Rolling Thunder in DC, May 26
« on: April 09, 2013, 10:03:58 PM »
Hey, I'm planning on going down to Rolling Thunder in DC over Memorial Day weekend and am wondering if any Brammo riders are thinking of going.

I have photographed the event before and it is absolutely incredible seeing a line of motorcycles that is several miles long roll through downtown DC.  No registration necessary, just show up at the parking lot.  It would be amazing to have a group of electric bikes there.

Here are the details:
Meet at the North Lot at the Pentagon at 8am, ride through DC begins at 12:00pm.
This is a demonstration, not a parade, to support full accounting of all POW/MIAs and veterans rights.
