Brammo Empulse / Re: NEW BATTERY FOR EMPULSE
« on: June 11, 2023, 01:24:52 PM »
Great Job!!!

I was wondering if the BMS could be made autonomous without causing other problems.  This is great news.

I still love the bike, but my range is not what it used to be, and I need to ride gently once I get to around 50% capacity.

Brammo Empulse / Re: coolant leak motor?

No, that is not normal, it should not be leaking anything.  The location of the drip is the low point when the bike is on its side stand and likely not where the leak actually is.  Hopefully it is an externally accessible hose or something else quick and easy to repair.

Getting parts is going to be a challenge even going through an authorized dealer.  Since you are not dealing with a warranty issue, Harlan Flagg at Hollywood Electrics is probably your best bet.  He would at least have the necessary skills to make something work.  At the very least, it would be worth talking to Harlan to see what he can do for you and what it might cost.

Brammo Empulse / Re: Clutch Switch

It is less expensive to use an off the shelf part that happens to have a switch, than to have one made that does not.  Many ICE motorcycles use this switch to prevent starting the bike if the clutch is not pulled in, and I suspect this is just left over.

Since you are out of warranty anyway, you might consider an aftermarket charger such as the Diginow Super Charger v2.  It would be less expensive and have a faster charging rate, though mounting it would not be as elegant as the OEM.  Brandon's website indicates this will work for the Victory electric motorcycles (ie Empulse).

Congratulations, enjoy your new ride!

Relaxed pace ride in the Santa Monica Mountains, stopped for lunch at Malibu Country Mart as they have a few chargers available and some great views.  Outside temperatures were in the low 60's.  Weather has not been cooperative lately and I had been itching to go for a ride, but have been off the bike for over a week and there had been rain in the canyons recently so we kept things nice and relaxed.  Roads ended up being very clean with only a few patches of dirt or rocks.

The video is of the Latigo Canyon portion of the ride.  I borrowed my wife's Garmin VIRB Elite so I could play with the GPS overlay.  The splice in the video toward the end is where we stopped to check on a couple of riders.  Two of them had gone down and while one of the bikes had extensive faring damage, the riders were not injured beyond a little bit of bruising.  One of the riders who had gone down was way more interested in talking about the Empulse and seemed to completely forget about his crash.

I agree with everything +progress- wrote except I used to get 80 miles out of my Empulse R and still get about 80 out of the Empulse TT.  There are some nice canyon rides where I live and hills don't seem to have to much impact provided I am not using the friction brakes much.  What the uphill taketh, the downhill giveth.  Increased air resistance from speed has the most noticeable impact on range and cooler days give a bit less as well.

I have a Victory Empulse TT, and I had a 2014 Brammo Empulse R prior to that.  They are practically the same bike with some minor differences such as the rear tire width as well as some of the internal connectors that impact which replacement part fits.  Overall, most comments you read on this forum about the Empulse still apply to the Empulse TT.

Test ride one if you have not had the chance yet.  I love the Empulse and the whole electric riding experience.

Did you have any specific questions?

Glad to year you have a fully functional bike!  Even better that you still have some time to enjoy it before it snows.

Thanks for the picture FrankH, yes that is a C19.  We use them on some of our server chassis and larger switching equipment.

Amazon and many others sell the cables for between $10 and $30, depending on the brand, connector on the other end, length, and wire gauge.

I can't tell for sure, but pictures on the Internet look like the power cord is a C13, as commonly found on computer equipment.  Can you post a picture of the cord as well as the socket where it plugs into your bike?

Since this seems to be an out of warranty issue, you might contact Harlan Flagg at https://hollywoodelectrics.com/contacts/, he might even be in your area for PPIHC.  He would be a potential resource for getting your existing one repaired, though you would likely need to remove/install it your self.  The also have an aftermarket charger that could reduce your charge times to about an hour they designed for the Zero that could be adapted.

Another option is Victory owns a 2014 Empluse R that is sitting at Indian Motorcycle of Orange County http://www.indianmotorcycleorangecounty.com/ that has a bad motor controller, but a working charger that you need.  The connectors were changed when the went to the Empluse TT, but as far as I am aware, the 2013 and 2014 have mostly interchangeable parts, including the charger.  Talk to Chris and see if he is able to get Victory to release the part to swap out yours.

I would also start calling Victory every couple of days.  Expect to wait on hold for 30 minutes and most of the time you won't be able to talk to the person assigned to your incident, but they do add the notes to the case file each time you call.  Mornings had shorter wait times when I had to go through this.

Good luck, I hope you are able to find a solution soon.

I don't watch it in every ride, but when I have checked the motor temperature on hot days, 140 - 150 Fahrenheit seemed to be common.
