Brammo Empulse / New rumors on next version of the Empulse
« on: October 11, 2013, 02:46:51 AM »
I'm hearing unvalidated rumors about upcoming changes to the Empluse that might have something to do with the guaranteed trade-back bucks for buying a current year brammo now, and being able to trade in on a new model at full MSRP.  Here is what I have pieced together from different rumors I've heard floated around:

1)  ABS as an option in all versions for both US and European releases.

2)  Updated Parker motors and controller updates for the R, E1 stays with the same motor, but gets efficiency updates that improve range, making the R even more the power model, and the E1 the winner for range.

4)  New battery packs, but no details.  Better range?  Lower cost?  More power delivery at WOT?  Don't know.

5)  Revised footpeg configuration

I'm sitting around in bed with a badly broken ankle (damn Mountain Bike hates me) I might as will violate some trusts and start asking questions.  Anyone else hear these same things?

Brammo Empulse / Empluse R vs. E1 (non-R) acceleration
« on: July 22, 2013, 08:04:16 PM »
I finally got a chance to do a demo ride on an Empulse now that the Brammo dealership opened recently here in Colorado.  It was a black E1 (non-R) model.  Apparently, they've already put enough miles on it for them to put it into Sport mode, so I got to experience the full gusto.

The brakes, suspension, and highway acceleration was everything I had hoped it would be.  It clearly beat out my aging SV650 in all those categories.  Based on that, I wouldn't have any reason to spend the extra for the "R".  I don't need more from the suspension.  And while the carbon fiber is cool, I definitely am not, so that's a wash.  =)

But I found the initial take-off (0-15 MPH) to be just a touch soft.  Nothing bad, but just enough to make me wonder if it would be worth it to get the "R" with the Parker motor just for that initial adrenaline rush.  That brings up the question, does the Parker motor really make a big difference for the initial launch in 1st gear?

The peak numbers seem to suggest that the power would come on harder earlier on the "R"  (54HP@4500 and 90Nm torque vs the same HP @6000 and 63Nm).  But peak numbers really don't mean much at RPM's well below where the motor generates peak power.

Does anyone have actual hard data on acceleration for the R and E1?  I'm thinking 0-60 Foot ET times like over on dragtimes.com (No brammo's there yet!?!):

http://www.dragtimes.com/Suzuki--SV-Drag-Racing.html?resultpage=1

Or if anyone has any HP/torque at the wheel actual measured graphs from dyno runs, that would be sweet.  Measured 0-60 times in 1st gear would also be appreciated (or whatever top speed is in 1st gear).

Thanks.

Wanting to buy / latests Colorado Dealership rumors
« on: March 28, 2013, 02:59:23 PM »
I don't know if anyone else has post this yet, but here is the latest rumors* I'm getting about the Denver Brammo dealership:

"We anticipate having everything wrapped up with our dealer in Denver, CO the first part of April and can begin bike shipments then.  Once we announce the dealer they will be in touch with you to arrange a test ride of our amazing Enertia Plus or Empulse and begin the process of delivering your pre-order.  Thank you for your continued support of Brammo."

I'm sure EmpulseBuyer will be at their doors chanting "Open! Open! Open!" the day this is announced.  *grin*

* - I use the term "rumor" because until it actually happens, it hasn't happened yet....

EDIT:  The rumors were true!  As EmpulseRider posted, here is the presser:

The State of Colorado finally published their revised FYI 67, and it's not good.

"VEHICLES NOT QUALIFIED FOR THE CREDIT
The following vehicles do not qualify for the credit:

Motorcycles and scooters

In order to qualify for the credit, a motor vehicle must meet the criteria applicable to one of the seven
categories listed above. Motorcycles and scooters, including electric motorcycles and scooters, do
not meet the criteria for any of the seven categories. Consequently, they cannot qualify for the credit."

Along with the 10% federal tax credit dying, the Empulse 8.0 going away, and the price going way up for the 10.0, this has killed my original financial math I did when I put in a reservation for an Empulse 8.0.  I tried to justify each of the incremental costs going up as they came along, but all together these all add up to way too much for me.  I'm out.

Brammo Empulse / Empluse V14 engine
« on: June 04, 2012, 05:31:17 PM »
I don't know if I'm the only person who looks at the Empulse and thinks the silver battery brackets look like pistons from a gas engine.

7 "pistons" on each side is more than a V8, more than a V12, it's a V14!    ;D

The State of Colorado has now split out a new FYI page for the revised 2012-2016 Innovative Motor Vehicle Credit that gives up to a $6,000 dollar refundable tax incentive for EV's.  (It also gives tax incentives for all kinds of other green cars too.)

https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/tax/fyi-publications-income-tax

or take this link and click on "Income 67" at the bottom of the list:

https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/sites/default/files/Income67.pdf

It is mostly info straight out of the old FYI, but it contains some new stuff, like this:

Q:  Can a vehicle qualify for this credit if it is not on the list?
A:  Yes. However vehicles must be approved, and the credit calculated by the Department of Revenue. Credits for manufactured vehicles must be applied for by the manufacturer

And this:

Zero Motorcycles

2012 DS ZF 6
Incremental price difference $ 6,505
Tax credit available for tax year 2012 $4,879
2012 DS ZF9
Incremental price difference $ 9,005
Tax credit available for tax year 2012 $ 6,000
2012 S ZF 6
Incremental price difference $ 6,505
Tax credit available for tax year 2012 $ 4,879
2012 S ZF9
Incremental price difference $ 9,005
Tax credit available for tax year 2012 $ 6,000
2012 X
Incremental price difference $ 6,746
Tax credit available for tax year 2012 $ 5,059
2012 X (2 packs)
Incremental price difference $ 9,241
Tax credit available for tax year 2012 $ 6,000
2012 XU
Incremental price difference $ 4,496
Tax credit available for tax year 2012 $3,372
2012 XU (2 packs)
Incremental price difference $ 6,991
Tax credit available for tax year 2012 $ 5,243

And for Brammo:

Brammo Motorcycles
Brammo Enertia Category 1
Incremental price difference $3,496
Tax credit available for tax year 2012 $2,622

So, open question for anyone inside Brammo --  Is anyone working with Colorado for updated Enertia Plus incentive numbers?  Of course I'd like to see the Empulse 6.0, 8.0, and 10.0 tax credits too...  *grin*  But seriously, depending upon how the incentives shake down, the Enertia Plus may be somewhere around just $1K more than the current Enertia (after rebate).

So I ran across this picture on an old May 2011 blog.  I can't tell if this is a photoshop, or an actual image of the Empulse with a seat for a 2nd rider.  I don't remember seeing this before, does anyone know more about it?

I tried to upload the photo, but failed.  Click the linkie if you want to see what I'm talking about.

Welcome Forum / newbie just joined the forum, yadda yadda.
« on: November 18, 2011, 06:28:09 PM »
I've finally joined the forum after reserving an Empulse mid-September.  I've got reservation #1416 for an Empulse.  So whoever has reservation #1415, just know that if you don't decide to go through with your reservation, I'll be the guy having all the fun on your bike instead of you.    ;D

I'm hoping my local Polaris Dealer (Grand Prix in south Denver) will become a dealer.  They've already got one sale (mine) and they don't even know who I am yet.  They already have a couple of Zero's on their floor, so they at least have the right mind-set already.
