Title: Tron Mod
Post by: firebourn on April 30, 2012, 05:22:58 PM
What does the brammo community think about my tron mod? As a plus, I plan on making it solar powered(The mod not the empulse). It charges the battery by day, and I turn it on at night.

I like this kind of stuff, although I don't think I'd do it myself. I'm a bit self-conscious about my reflective rim tape.

However, I'd add the LED tire stem caps if you're going to go Tron.

Have you seen the CRP videos of the Energica? It has a sort of strobing lightning bolt on the "tank" that seems to illuminate when you start up the bike. Strobing or motion in these LEDs seem to be called for if you're going Tron.

About half of those blue lines would be covered by legs/crotch.  I'm not sure I want my legs/crotch looking like they are glowing bright blue with backlighting.....

I like the concept, but I think it will take some trial and error to get the right glow pattern IMO.

I like the choice of blue LED lights at night.

I've thought about white EL wire for the Zero. Would definitely make it more visible from the side. Front visibility probably wouldn't change, not sure I'd want to make a line down the forks.

If you're going to do it to your bike, you might as well go all out:

Or at least:

If you are going to aim for TRON: Legacy style effects, use the stuff that they used:

Yeesh... that lighttape is expensive.  I guess you gotta pay to play.  4 feet of 1/4" is $50.  (I was just looking at their samples.)

The expense made me balk at trying to make a Legacy robe last halloween (it's cool, but I'm not that dedicated to the holiday, and I'd have needed around 15-20 feet of >1 inch tape ;).  On the other hand, a glowing Empulse with 1/4" or 1/2" tape?  Hmmm...

Also note that the samples are all rated for indoors.  They can manufacture for outdoors, but it adds cost and they don't have an easy way to find out how much it adds other than requesting a full quote.

And if you want to compete with this, you gotta use the official stuff:

And the $40K savings in getting the Empulse should amount to quite a light tape budget. ;)

very nice...likely will get them for my bicycle...

would love to see them on the Plus and Empulse...but seems like that is a long way off, unless Brammo can invest in them and do the transition from bike to motorcycle for the guys...

yeah, lets find MORE WORK for the Brammo guys :)

Just kidding!

Those would be sweet on a motorcycle.  Not sure what all would have to change.  Maybe just a faster chip to keep up with the increased RPM?

These DIY persistence-of-vision (POV) LED mods are pretty cool:

Here's something call EL Wire, for "electro-luminescent."

And here's a "how-to" guide for dressing up your motorcycle with it:
