Title: Wikipedia editors
Post by: Brammofan on January 03, 2013, 03:35:59 PM
So it seems that a couple of Wikipedia editors have decided that my contributions to the Brammo page are either in violation of the "conflict of interest" rules or require especially rigorous scrutiny because I am a "special purpose account" (basically, that the only edits I make are either on the Brammo page, or add some Brammo-related information or photographs to non-Brammo pages.)

Technically, they are correct... HOWEVER, I have disclosed the conflict of interest and, once you've done that, as long as the content you produce meets the other requirements of Wikipedia (i.e. that the information is notable, that it can be cited to an article, etc.), then it should be fine.

Anyway, if anyone already has an editor account on Wikipedia, let me know.  If you're interested in being an editor, also let me know.  It can be kind of a hassle, but in the long run, it's rewarding and can even be kind of fun.

No account...but you know I'm always willing to help out...

Though I'm not sure Wiki overlords will "like" me any more than they do you...I am not an official "BrammoFan", but I am obviously a fan....

All this work was not for nothing: Wikipedia was the first entity Ive found out about Brammo / electric motorcycles in general. Dont remember how though, but it was probably the work of hyperlink-magic :)

Thanks. I wrote the bulk of that article and have been diligently updating it for a few years. It was my first foray into wiki editing and that has served me well for some other projects, such as this forum's wiki, and the now - defunct TTXGP wiki.

They deleted my edits on the Brammo Empulse last June under the guise of "We don't document vaporware", so I do have an account, but I may be tagged as a subversive just as you are... :(

Pretty obviously not vaporware now. Maybe it's time to create a wiki article for the Empulse.

I added the Empulse R back to the chart on the electric motorcycles page.  We'll see how long it lasts this time... ;)

Someone check my entry for accuracy:

At the time they deleted it, last May 19th, it hadn't shipped yet.  They removed all motorcycles that weren't shipping.  That's why I only added the Empulse R today.  When we see a report of the first non-R shipped then I'll add the non-R to the page...

Wow - thanks guys.  Protomech, I see that you re-added the delivery information. Very cool - and your comment on the talk page was excellent.  One suggestion: put something on your user page and your user/talk page so that the links don't show up as red.  Red links to user pages (i.e. 'page does not exist') are kind of a red flag.

Flar - saw your re-addition to the electric motorcycles page.  Looks good.

We should also add the Enertia Plus.

Comment was perhaps a bit abrasive. I edited it several times from its original wording..

This page could use some updating too:

Moved the Empulse and Enertia Plus to the production category. I'll update the 2013 Zeros when they start shipping. Zero's page says January, but I've heard February from some people closer to Zero.

The battle continues.

They took down my edit that added the playboy motorcycle of the year award and have chopped the article to bits.

The discussion about this can be found here, on the editor's talk page:. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Biker_Biker#Brammo_2012_revision

I basically give up.
