Off Topic / MotoE & the Future of Electric Motorcycles
« on: November 19, 2019, 04:14:37 PM »
In 2019, for the first time, electric motorcycle racing has a proper World Cup series; MotoE. So Dr Helen Czerski paid a visit to the British round of the MotoGP championship to find out where we're at with electric motorbikes, both on the road and the track, why they're seemingly a bit behind the electric car industry, how the 'biking' community is accepting this revolution, and what the future holds.

Group Rides And Meetups / eTourEurope Emeetingpoint Mechelen May 12
« on: May 14, 2015, 11:57:37 AM »
The eTourEurope went through Belgium and had a stop at Mechelen.
They asked Ev-riders to visit them while they where charging.
Went there thinking that I probably would be the only 2-wheeler ...

Turns out this was not true ..

Trip Reports / Stuttgart Wavetrophy world record parade
« on: June 07, 2014, 05:48:25 AM »
Went with my Enertia+ from Antwerp to Stuttgart to the Wavetropy world record parade.

Took me 5 days to get to Stuttgart, 1 day for the parade, 1 day rest and visiting Sinsheim technik museum and back home (another 5 days).

It's not always been an easy trip. Made some mistakes. Not always easy finding where I could charge or stay overnight. But did meet a lot of interesting people and saw interesting things on the parade and on the trip.

Made some photo's of the motorcycle's.

Things I like

No more cold engine fuzz
No more clutch and gearbox
Nice easy driving.
Nice and strong front brake

Things I'm a little confused about and other minor things

I keep adjusting the mirrors but doesn’t seems to find “the correct” position.
In the Owner’s Manual, on the photo of the instrumental cluster, the numbers of the mode button and the trip button are switched.
You need to remove the seat to charge.
I would like the seat a little lower. and a little softer.
Charging is slow. Only 4,25 A. A normal household socket can have max 16A. Is there a option for a faster (external) charger ?
The kickstand is in a other position then I’m use to be.
The power connector on the charging cord is straight. You need to push real hard to close the charge-door at a charge-point.

Things I don’t like

When charging the parking lights are on. Can I do anything to keep those lights out ?
When charging you can reset the trip odometer and the clock.

These two things keep me from charging in the wild unattended…

Trip Reports / A chargepoint checkout trip
« on: January 06, 2013, 04:28:00 PM »
I have some chargepoints in my neighborhood, so it's time to give them a visit and see what happens ...

First one:  McCharge at McDonalds Zwijndrecht
How it works:
You have to ask the manager for his tag to open the power outlet
Plug your power plug in and close the power outlet (ohoh I have to push real hard)
but charging started.
When you want to go you have to ask the manager for his tag again to stop the charging and open the power outlet.
Then unplug your cable and of you go.

Next One: E-laad Ree022 Putte
How it works:
You need a card for this one.
I have a Blue corner card so...
Nothing but a tjilp...

Next one: EVA chargepoint Kapellen
How it works:
You need a card for this one.
I have a Blue corner card so...
This time a error code, heu ? I was told my card should be ok ?

Last one: 4242 ANTE5 Merksem
How it works:
You can buy a card or you can use SMS
I've tested the SMS option, so I've send a sms to 4242 with the code of the charge point and your numberplate. And after 10 secs the door opens, plug in your cable, close the door (ohoh) and the charging starts.
When done charging you have to send another SMS, door opens again, unplu and of you go.

So what did I learn today:

You have to be very carefully of you are going on a trip and really need a charge to get home (or where you want to go). Even if they say it's going to work (let it) check it out. Always make an emergency plan ( a second charge point )
