Post by: Consultec on August 20, 2015, 01:45:10 AM
Which one should you buy?

2014 Empulse    $9,995
2014 Empulse R    $11,995

This is the only E1 vs R comparison that I've seen, thanks to Adan and Shinyside for meeting up :)

The R is noticeably faster. Up to you if it's worth it.

So E1 for commuting and general runabout and R for sportbike shenanigans? Sounds about right. E1 would probably make sense for the type of riding I do on the Empulse, but man would I miss the sport mode acceleration.

I think I am like Alan but the extra (torque) would be nice.. That's 2k extra. :-(

Also the adjustable front suspension made me go for the R.
Takes a while before you've got these forks set up right tho. Mine came pretty stiff and non-responsive

My experience was that the E1 in Sport mode was about the same as the R in Normal mode. Being a total torque whore, I'm glad I got the R, but, truthfully, it was all that was available at the time. For $2K, I don't know if I would choose the same.

I've been on my E1 for almost two years, and never once wished I had more torque or acceleration.  It's more than adequate for real world conditions, which for me is commuting (including freeway) and occasional runs through the Southern Marin twisties.  I do leave it in sport mode.

But there's no denying the torque difference between the E1 and the R.  It's big.  If I was buying today at these fire sale prices, it would be hard for me to pass up the R.  We're motorcyclists, that means we want more power, not less!

At 165 lbs I'm probably right in the wheelhouse for how factory suspensions are set up.  Someone who weighed more or less might find more value in fully adjustable suspension.  But I don't really know what I'm talking about, more just repeating the common wisdom on this topic.

I bought the 2014 Empulse R (red) from Grand Canyon Cycles for $11995.00.  Charged it on my AMEX. :-) Go the miles..

cheeky bugger! I tried to charge my Empulse to collect the airmiles and they said I'd have to eat the %3 service charge. Good on ya for being able to do that.

It was my impression that the service agreements with CC companies forbids them from doing that.  Even charities have to ask if you'll voluntarily pay the charge and allow you to not pay it if you don't agree.

Strike that - it looks like the laws have recently changed:

Awesome pic.  I really regret selling my Enertia+.  That was a mistake and I wish I could undo it.
