Brammo Enertia Plus / Re: The sad story of my Enertia + order
« on: October 11, 2012, 08:03:36 PM »
".....electric cars not selling in the U.S."

Not exactly the case. They are not selling as of yet as many as they predicted or hoped but Volts (which most owners drive in electric mode most of the time, racking up well over 1 million miles on pure EV mode) have been selling steadily with an increase each month.

The LEAF has not done well yet, but it has been in limited rollout and there has been a lot of negative press about EVs in general and much of it politically motivated and not completely truthful.

The new LEAF plant in the U.S will be producing more in a few months and it will cost less which may entice more customers.

While they are not exactly flying off the showroom floors, they EVs are getting out there more and more. In fact, the Volt is selling more than many gas models.

This is from a story that was done recently.

"With 13,497 sales through August, the Volt is selling faster compared to any other variety of vehicles in the market which includes the Subaru WRX, the Chevrolet Corvette, the Mazda2, and the Nissan Altima Hybrid. The Volt is placed 133rd in ranking ahead of industry stalwarts like the Audi A6, BMW 7-Series, Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and it has also outsold nearly all hybrids with the inclusion of Toyota Prius plug-in, Kia Optima, Honda Civic, Toyota Highlander and Lexus RX 450h."

Hope this helps put EV sales and adoption in some perspective.

I like that one.

Brammo Enertia Mods / Re: LED Headlight?
« on: August 30, 2012, 06:09:04 PM »
I've got 32 led lights on my bicycle so obviously I feel the the more, the better.

It's just that sometimes it takes me longer to turn them all on and then all off than it does to get to where I'm going to on the bike. Each one has an individual on/off switch and no way to rig a master switch.

But I do get noticed, especially at night, when I actually feel safer because of the lights.

Nissan of North America and their advertising agency, Chiat-Day, asked me to write an article for their blog about electric vehicles and the videos I make about people that own them.

Below is the link.

Here is the latest on the ICE'ing issue of spaces in Santa Monica and the video above that I made. Lt. Trisler of the SMPD has been great as well as has one of the Deputy City Attorneys.

The signs at the locations in my video have to be changed by ECOtalty to comply with the new California State law.

Then the businesses, in this case Whole Foods and Ralph's, have to indicate to the PD that they allowed the new signs because they want enforcement on their private property.

So, the new actions are to call the manager at Ralph's (310) 582-3900, and tell them you want them to allow the PD to come onto their property and enforce the law. Same for Whole Foods, (310) 315-0662. Thanks.

Here's the latest. SMPD has determined that the law only allows for citing on City owned property, not private property, which is where all the chargers in question are located.

If this is the case, then we have to amend the law. Looking into this now.

Sorry I didn't catch that you had already posted the story in this thread. My mistake.

Many in City Hall has seen the video and are getting calls and e-mails about the issue, so we have their attention. A message from the Lt. that heads the Parking Enforcement Department at the P.D. was just left for me. Will let you know the result of the call.

And Skuzzle: There is sometimes a LEAF at the Ralph's and I looked at the timer and one day and he had been hooked up for 7 hours and was still counting. Clearly somebody that worked in the neighborhood and plugged in and just left the car there since this charger is free. There is another charger there, but it is often ICE'd.

Leaving an EV plugged in all day on a Level 2 charger is just as bad as ICE'ing in my book.

This was posted in another thread before I saw Harry had already started one:

A well done article done about a video I made and my pursuit to get Santa Monica to pay attention to a ten-year-old law protecting EV spaces. I think you'll be surprised by the video which is in the body of the story.

Glad to see that somebody reached out. I've had really poor experiences with Zero as far as their responsiveness. Maybe things are changing.

Off Topic / Jackson Browne Is An EV Guy
« on: May 08, 2012, 08:45:29 PM »
In the continuing series of short videos I make about people and the EV experience, my latest stemmed from a conversation I had with Jackson Browne at a dinner party of a mutual friend. He and I started started talking about electric cars and he said he had a Volt so I asked if he'd be the subject of one of my videos and he was kind enough to say yes.

Editing soon, but here is a screen grab from the shoot yesterday.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Good eye Harry on the J-1772. Her husband had their Volt and the only car in the garage was her old Rav-4 EV which has the old paddle connector and I knew if I had her pretend to hook up the J-Plug to the Rav people would cry "Fraud." But I wanted her to do something with the J-Plug so I came up with the quick draw action and she was game.

As far as the Hasselhoff connection, you are only two degrees away (or is it only one?)! I worked with him on The Young and the Restless in 1978 long before he was Michael Knight or Mitch Buchannon or the "German Elvis." He and Wings Hauser shared Cher's old dressing room from the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour since that was the stage at CBS that they shot Y&R.

FreepZ: In answer to your question, it was pretty easy to get both of them. I know Alexandra really well from our mutual volunteer work for Plug In America.

She is a sweetheart and when I told her what I had in mind she was all for it so we picked a day and I went to her house and gave her my script and we shot it. I do have to say it is really great working with a professional actor. She is VERY good at what she does. But also, she REALLY believes in the cause.

I knew Fabio from the interview I did with him on the day he shot the Plug In America spot. I coached him a bit on EVs and Plug In America so he could have a few facts for the interview and he seemed to appreciate it. We hung out a bit that day and he really was very approachable and open.

Later when I saw him at the Plug In Day parade on his Zero he told me that he basically was given it because of his appearance in the PIA spot and my interview which was seen by the Zero people. That sparked the idea for me to shoot the story.

Contacted his manager and told him what I wanted to do and he asked Fabio and he was all for it. Went to his house and shot it.

He also is a kind, humble, and sweet guy and was a complete pleasure to work with. Did everything I asked with no reservations and really put an effort into doing it right. A very enjoyable project.

As far as him "needing a haircut": I'll let you tell him that because he is one strong guy. He is twice as fit as he looks. He always hugs me now when I see him and afterwards my chest is black and blue because his pecks are like rocks.

He has asked me to ride with him if I ever get a Brammo which I think would be a complete kick.

My next EV project is going to be shot in two weeks and I'm as giddy as a school girl about it. It's about Volt owners and them being "mad as hell" about all the Volt trash talk by Fox "News" and Rush Limbaugh. My first subject is a person that I've been a big fan of for 40 years so I'm really looking forward to it.

Again, thanks for your feedback. It gives me motivation to keep doing it.

Off Topic / Video On How Fabio Became An Electric Motorcycle Lover
« on: April 04, 2012, 05:17:32 AM »
Been wanting to shoot a follow up to my Brammo Stories Episode One for some time, but I've not been able to find any subjects here is SoCal.

Therefor, I shot a video about Fabio and how his appearance in a Plug In America public service commercial and behind the scenes documentary I made facilitated him becoming a spokesperson for electric vehicles and an electric motorcycle owner.

Sorry to say that the brand he rides is not a Brammo but I made certain that when I shot this and edited it I got a couple of Enertias in the video. I've included a link if anybody is interested in it. Alexandra Paul (beautiful, dedicated and intelligent) also stars in this.
