Off Topic / I'm at it again
« on: November 22, 2021, 09:30:43 AM »
Hello all. Well, I am at it again. I am having fun once a week recording the week's elmoto news as best as I can. I am on YouTube and just last night I figured out how to turn that video into audio and post it to Spotify, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Podbean, Amazon, and iHeartRadio. I haven't got TuneIn and Pandora set up yet though. But I will work on it. Just search for ESBK Studios.

I don't like spamming the forums, but I'm getting 0 traffic. I thought maybe it's OK to speak up one time and if I get subscribers then heck yeah. If interest doesn't bump up then I can just do it for the fun of it and no one has to watch.

Here's my latest news roundup/show thing. ;)

Brammo Empulse / Are you having difficulty getting parts for repairs
« on: August 17, 2020, 10:02:34 AM »
So I DM'd a well know electric motorcycle dealership just inquiring if they were selling Energica or Lightning Motorcycles. I've just been out of touch and thought they used to sell Energica. I thought if the YouTube brew-ha-ha over Lighting had proved not true, they might be offering them.

They reply I got was . . . disappointing. Although I feel it wasn't done in malice, and aimed at someone actively looking to buy a bike.

Anyway part of the the reply was to demonstrate that you want to be cognizant of if the company you are buying from might not last, and could leave you stranded if you need parts. The comment was made that Brammo owners could be having a hard finding parts right now.

My snarky response should have been, well if they had as many recalls as Zero has had over the years I'd be worried for them. But alas hind sight and all that.

So, considering Brammo's production was sold off to Polaris, and put under the Victory brand, that was then killed off. Is anyone having a hard time getting parts and support?

Victory Empulse / A few questions
« on: January 28, 2016, 12:45:35 AM »
So watched a bunch of YouTube videos. I noticed in one that the tach was way off, and the video mentioned the other test bike's tach was way off. Does anyone know if this is a thing with these bikes?

Also, went to the local Polaris/Victory/Zero/GEM dealer. Salesman really knew his Zero stuff, and seemed pretty sure the Zero's were much better than the Brammo's, but he did add as far as he was told. Don't get me wrong he wasn't rude about it at all. Just the typical rival treatment, which I found amusing. But I'd buy a bike off of him if I could. Anyway, he seemed to think that they wouldn't be able to get an Empulse. Of course he also didn't seem to know that the Empulse was no longer a Brammo and made by Polaris. He seemed to be under the impression it was all still Brammo, Polaris was just the parent company. Ether way, he said he didn't think they would get one because it'd be one of those package deal where they'd have to have to carry a bunch more models in able to get that one. They are a smaller dealership afterall. Anyone know if this is true? The salesmen did offer to ask his boss, but I didn't think I should have him bother his boss where I didn't have $20k to spend on one.

Hello all,
So I found the thread about the 100hp Empulse HVR, and then realized that both round of the Cali rounds of the eMotoRacing series are while I am home after I take a piano exam back home in Maine. I would be spending money I shouldn't but its a trip I really should make. However, I need a place to crash and a ride to the track and back to make it all happen. Obviously with someone who is going. I would be covering the weekend, press pass or not, for my site, and so people can follow along. If I was really fortunate I'd be able to get a visit into Hollywood Electrics, Zero, and who knows who else while in the area (but it is a BIG state). And maybe finally get a ride on these things.

Anyway, that's a lot of high hopes and dreaming.

But is there anyone out there who will be going to the two race weekends who has a place, and is willing to let me crash? I can provide money, I just can't afford hotel and car rental money. Thnx.

Wanting to buy / Where can I find a 2013 R?
« on: September 06, 2014, 03:06:07 AM »
OK, full disclosure. I have this good paying job (finally) and am digging my way out of a financial abyss. I am actually pretty much there. Now, I am looking to build my credit up and not looking to keep this job for much more than another year, assuming I get a teaching job next year. So, that will be a pay cut. I can either try to get a 2010 VFR1200 DCT demo, with 1900 miles on it, that will get me to races and Maine, and such. Or a 2013 Empulse R as both are $12k. I realize the VFR is the logical choice, but some of the guys on the boat here started poking fun about how long it would take to get to the tracks and my nothing is impossible/I'll show you attitude kicked in, and now I am fighting lust. Back to the cash part, my plan is to basically have this thing paid off in a little over a year. But, if I bought the Empulse, getting to Barber or Road Atlanta would be nearly impossible in a timely manner. Has anyone seriously thought about trying to stuff a bigger charger, like a 6kW or 9kW? I am pretty sure I could kiss my warranty good bye.

Besides all that, where in the heck do you find a left over 2013 R? For $2k more the VFR beats the 2014 R.

Thoughts?

Hey guys,

Just for the sake of conversation; I was day dreaming the other day, as usual, about someone doing a proper Empulse vs S/SR comparison.

I'd like 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, track times, and a street review just like the mags do for everyone else. I'd also like a few of the different versions of these bikes in the test. Such as the Empulse and Empulse R, as well as both the S and SR. However Zero makes it harder with the booster pack option. As it seems to allow more power but adds not insignificant weight up high.

What are your thoughts, and wants?

I figured I'd take a cue from Gavin and create a thread for me to put links to my posts in.  Here's our favorite Jeff.

Warning, this will either cost you 50 cents to listen to and/or download for a week, or $10 for a years subscription to all the podcasts.

Brammo Empulse / ESBK calling all Empulse owners
« on: October 16, 2013, 11:36:30 PM »
Alright guys, Thanks to Frodus and Shelina and many other very nice messages I wasn't expecting I've got a bit more wind.  It really is time for an ESBK Studios Empulse Owner round-table.  I am looking for volunteers  to gather hopefully this Sunday evening at 8pm Eastern/5pm Pacific on skype or via their phones (I have a number you can call in to) to discuss your Empulse.  Got no idea what I am going to ask as of yet but it's going to be around the owning experience.  The wait and anticipation (and chaos), arrival of the bike, and ownership experience.  Reliability, customer experience, service, etc.  I am hoping to get many (up to 6 maybe?) so I hopefully get a little bit of everything from everyone and give potential buyers an idea beyond Brammo's marketing (not that there is anything wrong with their marketing) and some forum chatter.

Please reply to this post or PM me so I can give you the contact info.

Gavin.  You'd better show.  Making former military electrician's mad isn't a good idea.  ;)
Actually no.  I would like you there to chime in as you wish as I think you get the longest range from a charge, but I know you don't like hearing your own voice.

Brammo Empulse / How's everyone's Rs and E1s working
« on: August 28, 2013, 01:02:32 AM »
This forum isn't as busy as I'm used to.  Is everyone out riding their bikes?  I was wondering how your bikes are doing, how you've settled in with switching to pure electric, what changes as the bike break in, maintenance, and how these bikes compare to the gas ones around you or that you have owned in perceived performance and other factors you may not have thought of.

Thanks,
Richard

Kyle and I chat for about 2 hours about their team, their bike, their goals, the Isle of Man TT Zero, and elmotos in general.  He comes up with some things that catch even me off guard.  And as we all know, I come up with some off the wall stuff.  Also the good guys at MotoPod let me share one of their TT Zero gems with you folks.  Thank you guys!  Consider this your TT Zero primer.  Enjoy!

A great and fun interview with Tyler Rowan of the Motorcycle project side of the Southern Polytechnic State University’s Electric Vehicle Team.  Say that three times fast.  his is the fifth University club/team I have found with serious aspersions of building an FIM eRoadRacing contending bike.  Give them a listen.
