Brammo News And Views / Empulse Buyer News Letter

Got this this AM and thought some of you who do not have an order would like to read it anyway.

Dear george bower,

As someone who has pre-ordered an Empulse you clearly share our passion and you will be pleased to hear that we are rapidly approaching 1000 customer pre orders. One lucky customer from the first 1000 pre-orders will be selected at random and their Empulse will be a gift from Brammo. It could be you! Help us get to 1,000 pre-orders by referring a friend. Follow this link to share with your friends: Share >>

When we announced the Empulse range of electric motorcycles on July 15th even we didn’t anticipate the overwhelming response that we have received from customers, dealers and journalists around the world. Since then we have announced our strategic partnership with Flextronics, this relationship will enable Brammo to establish a manufacturing capability in each of our major markets very quickly, while maintaining our reputation for producing electric motorcycles of the highest quality.

Development work on the Empulse continues apace and during testing the pre-production prototypes have consistently exceeded our expectations. This work will continue through the winter into 2011 and we will keep you informed of progress.

We are also in the process of establishing a Brammo authorized dealer network in both North America and Europe. We expect to have this network substantially in place for the 2011 riding season. Best Buy will remain an integral part of this network in North America. If you have a favorite motorcycle dealer you can share that information with us here: Dealer Referral.

In November Brammo attended the 68th EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, this is the oldest and largest show of its type in the world. It was an excellent opportunity for our European customers and dealers to see our motorcycles meet Brammo and pre-order the Enertia Plus and Empulse.

This is the first in a series of newsletters specifically for Brammo customers who have preordered an Empulse. If you have any questions about your Empulse simply email empulse@brammo.com at any time.

Brammo Empulse / Re: Upright Riding Position Option For Empulse?
« on: December 10, 2010, 09:23:36 AM »
That of course would not work on the Empulse. I was thinking a true cruise control (as opposed to a throttle lock) would work as most of my miles will be highway miles. The other way would be to do what Highlander suggested----2 throttles.

So that leads me to ask you guys: Do you know of any aftermarket cruise controls exist?? I would think they would. The more complicated mod would be a "Y" split on the throttle cable or maybe 2 separate cables. soooo: you guys ever heard of that. I have not.

Yes, you could add in a second set of throttle / brake controls. That's within the range of a hobbyist type project, certainly -- but obviously something you'd need to take care with.

Proto,
I was thinking about this. When I posted the thing about doing a "Y" in the throttle cable I was thinking (DAH) that the bike had a conventional throttle "cable", which of course it does not. It of course has a bunch of wires instead. Just wondering how one would make 2 fly by wire motor controls work in parallel.

I think it is good to think "outside-the-box", but your idea might have been unsafe.

What about some bars that go up and down electronically?? That's variable geometry.
Pretty impractical on the Empulse. Maybe on a Goldwing.

Yeh, you guys are right. One set of bars at the best position is best. but, it is fun to think in variable geometry mode--like an F14 tomcat or the B1B!!

How do you brake from the upper hand position?
Gavin

I don't. I need to move to the lower position. I only use the upper bars if I'm in a situation where I won't need the brakes for a while.

For a motorcycle, going 60 mph or more, or in town going slower but having idiots trying to turn left on me and such, well I sure wouldn't want my hands that far from the brakes.
Gavin

Agreed. This would be for highway use.

You would need a second throttle and brake lever right?

The riser bars work good on the ebike because the bike has a pedal sensor that reads what your pedalling rpm is. It adjusts the electric motor assist based on that--ie the faster you pedal the more assist you have.

That of course would not work on the Empulse. I was thinking a true cruise control (as opposed to a throttle lock) would work as most of my miles will be highway miles. The other way would be to do what Highlander suggested----2 throttles.

I wanted to bounce an idea off you guys. It's probably dumb but I'll post it anyway since I'm kinda dumb anyway. If you look at the picture of my ebike you will notice the clip on riser bars. These work in conjunction w/ the reqular bars that they clip onto. I can choose which bars I want to use. When my arms and wrists get tired from using the lower bars, I switch to the high bars. This takes the load off my arms and wrists but it puts the load on my butt. So after a while I switch back to the lower position. Of course the lower position is better for aero drag.

Anyway, what about doing this on the empulse? The lower bars would be clip-ons and the upper bars would be what  comes stock on the bike stock, or maybe a little higher.

I've never seen it done before (probably for good reason hah-hah).

What do you guys think about this??

Yes, this is what I was thinking. Another friend said it's more like ---not COUNTER leaning, as opposed to just matching the bikes natural lean angles.

Gavin,
Great comment on OCD and the hand washing. I can relate.

Anyway, I have an Empulse on order. I am 61 years old. I have not been a street bike rider since the late 60's when I had a Honda 305 super hawk. I did however go thru 3 dirt bikes. The last being a YZ465 which in it's day was a pretty fast bike. So I like aggressive riding (still do I have 2 quads now for desert--not dunes riding). As you can surmise I am used to an upright riding position.

Could you guys comment on the difference in the riding technique used on a sports bike as opposed to a bike that has a more upright position?? I know they are different and I think I will have to retrain myself.

I liked the one about the police not noticing the speeding Enertia.

I have a DPS neighbor / friend. Our little highway 188 in AZ is so overpatrolled it's a joke. I'm thinking of doing a 100 MPH flyby on him on the Empulse when he is parked radaring people. The approach would be from behind.

Think he will write me up??--GSB

GeorgeS,

If you can find a backroads route for the commute, you might be able to do the entire thing without recharging in the middle - maybe 40-45 mph.

No way, 65 is the min, 75 is more like it w/ a blast past some a them Harleys!!! Can you imagine an off the line race. LOL!!!

I bet paving is last. Have you guys ever been to Ashland?? I have but it was before I knew about Brammo being there. It's a nice little town. If you go make sure you do the Brewery. Good food and of course good beer. They bring out a sampler of all the diff beers then you order what you liked best.--GSB

If Brammo is supposed to have production up and running in Europe at Flextronics by April, 2011, Does this possibly imply that Empulse production could be a little earlier in the US??
