Title: Well I now know that the Empulse can go with no regen....
Post by: Gavin on April 10, 2013, 11:14:07 AM
So I've wondered...We have normal mode with moderate regen. We have Sport mode with extreme regen...so could we have a no regen mode?

And the answer is yes we could.

It had been beautiful since I got my Empulse. 60s to 70 degrees. Sunny.

Yesterday a cold front moved in and we dropped 20 plus degrees. So the bike sat in the Hospital garage for 9 hours at 40 degrees. When I got off work and started Mr White up I had a code saying something like..."battery cold you crazy man, regen off."

And on my ride home I had similar riding style to the Enertia Classic. No regen.
Near to home it must of heated up enough to change over to: "Cold battery cut back" warning and the regen returned.

So I do know that Brammo could add a no regen mode for standard driving...I just don't know if anybody would use it...I would from time to time for night riding when I think it's sweet to coast silently...but not sure that Brammo will put the work into an update just for my nighttime driving preference.

one question...anybody know the range that causes this either "no regen" or "power cut back"? I didn't really notice any power cut back, but I was only doing city driving. It was 40 degrees...I will be driving in much colder weather come next winter.

To get a 'no regen' effect, can you not simply pull in the clutch?

but that takes effort :)

if I want to coast along for a half a mile or so, I don't want to hold the clutch while doing it...

just lazy like that

I like the regen in my Tesla Roadster but there have been people on the forums clamoring for a coast mode.  The new  Model S has regen settings to answer some of this.  Maybe that is something they can program into the next firmware update to adjust the amount of regen?

Neutral could work :)

I like to coast while riding no handed...and riding no handed is hard with the regen braking like a fiend.

Taking apart my 2010 VCU, there is an input on the board says "regen disable"
