Title: Proper Frame Sliders for the Empulse
Post by: EmpulseRider on May 28, 2013, 10:48:04 PM
I realize that the frame slider bolts are 10mm size, but after receiving the Woodcraft frame sliders for the Suzuki SV650 I realized that they are definitely not the right sliders for the Empulse. I think the Shogun sliders for the SV650 may work, but would just like to confirm with the community here before I order more sliders... what frame sliders did you get and where did you get em? Thanks!

Update: Im a bonehead and put this in the wrong section, needs to be in Empulse Mods. Sorry about that :(

10 mm front
8 mm rear

Since these are the first I've bought, I have no idea what the $100 ones have that the cheaper ones don't. Mine work fine to get the bike off the floor. End of story, for me. ;)

Here are the sizes found in the "Assorted Farkles" thread.  I bought a pair of these cheap rear swingarm spools:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005CWA7MW/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005CWA7MW/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
The fit perfectly on the bike and on my swingarm stand.  The color doesn't match the black swingarm, oh well.

On a side note... Would it be possible to somehow create threads for different types of mods?  A lot of great information has been posted that is hard to find.  It would be nice if we could have sections for sliders/spools, horns, lights, luggage, locks, etc.

I bought some woodcraft swingarm spools that work great:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A6GUDMS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A6GUDMS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Looks like I paid a bit more for em then you did, but I really like Woodcraft's stuff.

I read through the "Assorted Farkles" thread as well but Shiny didnt mention (specifically) what he used for the 10mm front sliders.

For the fronts, I ended up getting these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/250953543238?item=250953543238&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:L:OC:US:3160&vxp=mtr (http://www.ebay.com/itm/250953543238?item=250953543238&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:L:OC:US:3160&vxp=mtr)

I threw away the custom mounting bits and just used the tubes, which are longer than the track stand spools, offering more protection.

Thanks Shiny, I just ordered a pair myself.

I'm suppose to be on the list for the "official" Brammo ones...but don't know what sizing they are.

I'll post more pictures shortly, but I don't know that I'd recommend putting frame sliders on the front.

I dropped the bike going about 30mph (hooray for wet muni tracks) and the sum total of the damage was . . . a bent handlebar and right peg and a broken right turn signal.  The frame/carbon fiber/bodywork/etc etc were not even grazed.

Because the 'tank' is so skinny, it's basically suspended above the ground by the peg and bar end.  I suspect a frame slider jutting out might just serve to catch on the ground and perhaps do more harm than good.

Some on amazon for cheaper... Will report when I get em.

Here's a real-word test, yesterday, at Thunderhill:

FWIW, Brammo chose the front slider to be the longer variety. Looks like it totally saved the Parker logo ::)

I got these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008K7VSOM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008K7VSOM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Installed in under a minute. Tossed the adapters.

One is longer than the other, Put it on the gear shifter side because it doesn't fold. If anyone wants to order a pair and ship to me, I'll give them the longer or shorter one and send.... so they'd be a matched set.

Haha yep, I was there at the track!  Saw the damage first-hand; the slider barely got touched if at all.  In any case, both of the Empulses I've seen in street accidents (including mine) did not have sliders, and there was not a scratch anywhere on the bodywork.

However -- both of the street Empulses had handlebars!  Clip-ons probably would change my opinion.

What is the thread size and pitch of the Frame Slider fitment on the side of the bike?

I want to get these:
http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Black-Motorbike-Motorcycle-Sliders/dp/B00DANH5B6/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1408497200&vehicle=2013-14-22368-20-----------2-0&sr=1-1-catcorr&ymm=2013%3Atriumph%3Aspeed+triple+r+abs&keywords=motorcycle+slider (http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Black-Motorbike-Motorcycle-Sliders/dp/B00DANH5B6/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1408497200&vehicle=2013-14-22368-20-----------2-0&sr=1-1-catcorr&ymm=2013%3Atriumph%3Aspeed+triple+r+abs&keywords=motorcycle+slider)

But I'll have to hit the hardware store to get bolts to attach them.

10 mm front
  8 mm rear

But what is the pitch?

This is my best SWAG answer:

I found this chart:

http://www.revzilla.com/assets/0000/5088/woodcraft10mm_swingarm_spool_sliders.pdf (http://www.revzilla.com/assets/0000/5088/woodcraft10mm_swingarm_spool_sliders.pdf)

Only the KTM bikes specify a coarse thread, meaning all the rest must be fine threaded, which, I believe is 1.25 pitch.

Somewhere, I have a bolt size plastic tool that has pitch guides on the edge, but I can't find it at the moment.

Yea I just don't want to cross thread it with the wrong pitch or have it vibrate loss. Thanks for the help. If nothing decisive is found I'll just go with 1.25.

Figured I'd share my slider choice with everyone. For really cheap slider solution:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DANH5B6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DANH5B6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HQR3X0Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HQR3X0Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Works great on the bike.

I had contacted WoodCraft in early January about sliders for the Empluse.  They told me they had been working with Brammo and I would be able to purchase them from Brammo soon.  A few weeks went by and after a couple of emails, I was put in touch with the service manager.  I was able to order a set of sliders for $69 plus shipping.
