Title: Battery heated gloves
Post by: Richard230 on January 01, 2013, 10:42:38 AM
Recently there has been some discussion on the BOF about battery-heated gloves. Web Bike World performs a huge number of product evaluations on all motorcycle clothing and accessories.  I have several of the items that they have reviewed and I believe that their comments are honest and correct.  Considering the time of the year, I thought that their reviews of electrically-heated gloves might be of interest.

Here is a link to a review of their favorite wireless battery heated gloves:  http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-gloves/vquattro-squadra-gloves/ (http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-gloves/vquattro-squadra-gloves/)

And here is a link to their reviews of all of the heated gloves that they have tested: http://www.webbikeworld.com/site-search/search-results.htm?q=battery%20heated%20gloves (http://www.webbikeworld.com/site-search/search-results.htm?q=battery%20heated%20gloves)

I like the Gerbing heated gloves, but you need a heat controller and lots of wires, along with a strategically located 12 V power socket. That puts the cost of the gloves close to $200. Once you get everything on, plugged in and the thermostat set, you can't beat them for keeping your hands warm in cold weather. They are much better than heated grips, as they keep your entire hand warm and not just your palm.  Plus, you can use them for many years, even when you switch motorcycles.

I used to have a pair of cheap "heated" gloves powered by a D-cell battery located in each cuff. They worked OK when you were walking around, but were pretty much useless on a motorcycle.  No doubt the technology has improved substantially, while prices have gone up accordingly.

Webbikeworld gave rave review to the VQuattro Squadra gloves, but there's no dealer yet in the U.S. for this French company. They look really nice, if pricey. Got to find a Euro dealer that will ship them to me.
