Title: New Tire Recommendations for Empulse R?
Post by: jazz999 on August 13, 2018, 09:45:34 AM
I got a big nail in rear tire.  Recommendations on replacement tires for Empulse R would be appreciated.  :)

You can plug the tire if you still got a lot of meat on the tire left.  I think the second time I rode my Empulse I got a nail already :(  Plug is still in there holding air well.  You could also remove the tire and patch it also.

I've heard some crazy story about plugs flying off tires on the dyno, but those were from superbikes with a ton of horsepower.

My new Zero's rear tire picked up a nail after about 1K miles and I plugged it with a Dynaplug plug. It worked perfectly and my tire hasn't lost any more air than before the damage. It is only loosing about 1 psi every 2 weeks, just as it did before. The plug is holding great after 3K miles of use.

Oh yeah I'm not sure what comes with the Empulse R but the Empulse TT has Continental Sport Attack 2 tires.  I have been pretty happy with them.

For my front tire on my Kawasaki ZR7 that has the same size tires I'm running a Shinko 005 Advanced I rather like it.  I have Continental Race Attacks on the rear and for street riding I hate it, it so slippery when cold, I guess that's why they're for the racetrack.  I might try the Shinko Advanced when it comes time to change tire.  They're inexpensive also.

I too have had a good experience with plugs. I've probably plugged a half dozen tires over the years.

My first application was on a tire with 200 miles on it and it lasted the life of the tire.

Aside from replacing the tire, you can use what the California Highway Patrol uses on their bikes: an internally applied mushroom plug. AFAIK, you'll need a shop to do the job.

As for new tires, I'm liking the Michelin Pilot Road 4's for their solid handling, good wet grip, and longer tread life.
