I do wonder if the VERY HUGE seat is to help with SteveO's back injury....

Holy crap! How many times have they revised this beast? Best of luck to Brammo this weekend... should be a sweet race!

well it does look like they added a bunch of "stuff" down low by the radiator...

perhaps to address the leaking fluid.

and the tank seems a bit longer...maybe for either balance or more space for SteveO to lay his chest (also for balance)...

perhaps the seat isn't much bigger than before...just better hidden with the paint job...

and all the side extra bits....could have just been hidden with the side fairing bits...

so maybe not a huge difference after all...

Will they finish the fairing?

news from Practice:

Team Icon Brammo complete their second test session at PIR and log a top sped of 147 mph - Steve O and the #1 Empulse RR are both on good form. Thats the end of our practice sessions for today.

Brammo Facebook

good top speed...i wonder how this compares to last year at this track?

Last year PIR and VIR were dropped. Unfortunate, I was planning to trek out to VIR.

Presumably the picture here is the bike without its aero fairing. Looks a bit awkward.

Like the mix of bikes on the grid... Looks like E-bikes are ready to throw down with the oil burners  :). GO BRAMMO!

I don't fully understand what happened, but I think brammo qualified third behind the MotoCzysz bikes. However, saw a tweet by Czysz saying something about the bikes still having the iom battery packs in and that, since they could do better with the short track packs, they won't race. I'm sure we'll get more info.

I love the empulse rr. If they would bring the nose and side fairings to the empulse R world domination would ensue.

I do wish it was a little easier to follow the race though.

Yes, strange...they have the two fastest bikes...those bikes are at the track...they spent the time and money to get them there...they do great at qualifying. And they pull them from the race because they feel other batteries could do better? Not to be mean, and I know all the racers try to be supportive of each other, but I feel some level of shenanigans is at play.

Run the race and win and get the points and then improve the battles for next time...or run the race and come in second and get the points and improve the batteries for next time...but pulling out at the last minute doesn't sound like they think they could finish the race at all and would end up with no points and some bad press...

But maybe I'm missing something.

Here are some very few pieces of info readily available on the web. It's really frustrating that no one has yet to think about live streaming or at least a "play-by-play" blog (anything beyond FB and Twitter). When I said that the electric motorcycle world needed better journalists I should have said any journalist. No threads at elmoto.net either. What's going on? People just gave up on elmotos altogether and forgot to let us know? Or am I missing anything?

The first link has a an interest idea that might explain their MotoCzysz move:

This could just be them bowing out as not to interfere with a points championship they had no intention competing for in the first place. Or they had technical problems that hasn’t been mentioned.

Anyway, i am happy to see VTech's team putting on a good show. I hope they finish in second and put some pressure on Steve just to make the race fun. I should pay them a visit some time soon.

Without Czysz, Brammo should have a fairly easy round, though.

UPDATE:  I just got word that one of the MotoCzysz packs caught fire after qualifying.  They doused it with water for about an hour and then went home.  How no one bothered to mention this last night I don’t know.  This would be one of the issues with the TTXGP series, Twitter, and me trying to cover it from a remote location.

News update from electricracenews.com (http://www.electricracenews.com/2012/06/ttxgp-qualifying-round-2012-pir.html):

Quote
At the end of the Qualifying, the bike ridden by Christopher Ancien had an issue that I did not directly witness.  I've talked with Michael Czysz to get clarification, and I've watched a video taken by an onlooker.

What happened is that in the pits, a cloud of smoke engulfed the bike and the pit crew pushed the bike to the side and poured water on the battery pack to cool it down.  As a result the MotoCzysz team has pulled out of this weekends'  TTXGP race.

What happened is the bike was set up with a battery pack meant for the Isle of Man.  This means building the pack from "Energy Cells" that support a lower C rate than the "Power Cells" they'd use for a TTXGP race.  The difference is that the Isle of Man, at 38 miles distance, is longer in length than the TTXGP races.  This means for a TTXGP race they can run with higher C rate cells to run at higher speeds, whereas for the Isle of Man they need a lower C rate allowing for more total kilowatt-hours to make the full length of the race.

Because the pack supports a lower C rate, and because Ancien ran more laps than did Michael, the pack was stressed more.  The pack got hotter (while Michael's pack stayed within the target temperature) and got close to the temperature that would trigger a thermal runaway.  Meaning the bike nearly caught fire.

Hopefully they get it all dialed in for next race...good looking bike (though i liked last years better) and fast.

I wish they had raced the second bike that didn't start smoking and had to be hosed down. But I know that they do have an investment to maintain. Still they walked away from points...Dial the bike back, take your second place points and get a nice lead point wise for the third race...

Last race Brammo took their lumps and moved forward and won today.

Looks like MotoCzysz might take a few lumps this time, but I gather they too will move forward and get going for the next race.

Steve Atlas took more than a few lumps. Glad to see he's back out and racing.

Why yes, yes he did...

Back on the horse, and with a win...

It I had wrecked like he did I would still be curled in a fetal position hitting the "more morphine NOW" button over and over...

Yeah, I screwed the pooch and did not confirm my source.  The batteries never caught fire, but I am sure by now you all have seen the videos of the one bike smoking after practice.

@Ninja, There was streaming and timing, and if you had read my blog and twitter feed you'd have known that. ;)  I would be more than happy to attend every race weekend and do a live radio broadcast (although I'm not sure how keen some teams would be about it, lol).  But I would need about $1000 every weekend for travel, room, food, and track access.  And then, I have looked into live radio over the internet, and it looks expensive, really expensive.  Also, there are issues with broadcast rights and the TTXGP, not to mention how the track feels.  There's more money I suspect.  My blog only gets 2000 hits a month.  You can't really attract any advertising dollars with only 2000 hits.  And, I am pretty sure it would be horrible.  It's simply not popular enough yet.  TTXGP did have videos from qualifying up pretty quick though.

@Gavin.  I know how you feel.
