Here's an article I read off Greencarcongress.com on a grant from an electric vehicle consortium to Envia systems to further their battery research. The rumor of their death may have been exaggerated.

Could this be a possible option for future Brammo Bikes? I certainly think so if they get mass produced. Imagine getting over 200 miles on a future Empulse! That'd be awesome!
