Enertia doesn't start: controller?(solved)
« on: April 13, 2020, 01:48:11 PM »
Hi there, I'm from the Netherlands and recently I bought 3 Enertia's Basic 2012 in one buy, The bike are in a good shape, mileage of 750-1000km, they were used as a rental offroad bike in the Belgium Ardennes, after the ride the previous owner used to clean the machines with a high pressure waterjet.
No1: is charging, is running , range 25-30km, no errors or faults on screen, i'm happy.

No2: no charging, no sign of life, valence battery-modules in deep discharge, i charge them all separately with a lab netsupply on 14V 1,5A cc/cv, they charged up to 14V, after unplugging the supply 3 off them selfdischarged pretty quickly, from 14V to 4V in 2 days, the other 3 kept up longer.

No3: Initial faults; B7,B40,B55, voltage to low for onboard charger, one dead module, i swapped it with a module of no2, then the onboard charger did the job, no errors/faults on screen, although i have 5 green blinking modules and one red blinking module (the one i swapped). after charging and balancing i tried to start the bike: nothing happened! After turning the key the startup-bling is showing on the speedometer and the normal info is on screen, the click in the fusebox is there, so far so good. But when i push the grey start-button nothing happens, no next click in fusebox, no louder click off main contactor. Controller fault/error?

Note: when in charge-mode and when I push the grey startbutton and hold it for 7 sec, the balancing-info should appear on screen, but it doesnt
Please any suggestion for what can be wrong and what could be the solution for fixing this problem, thanks for your reply

maybe the switched out module is on a different firmware or not close enough in voltage to the other modules?
even maybe the Module isn't in it's right position(module number).

wel spannend ;D

Goedemorgen Leander uit NL? The swapped modules have the same ID's (ID=004), I think the charging is ok now , all the module have the same voltage. I can't check the balancing because the grey startbutton isn't working at all, when I push the grey startbutton while in chargemode the screen doesn't flip to balancing-info-screen. And there is no action when i push the grey startbutton in drivemode (key is on, red switch is on). I found the wiring diagram and when i'm back from work i will check the upperconnector of the VCU and clean it with contactcleaner, could be there is some corrosion on contacts (4H-4J), fingers crossed

OK, solved the problem, I swapped the VCU with my donorbike and after that i was able to start and ride the Enertia 8).
Some minor issues: Fault V78 on screen, buttoncell battery systemclock on printboard VCU dead.
I was able to check the state of balancing: there is a difference of 0,3V between highest and lowest cellvoltage.

I noticed quit a differnce in noise while driving between my Enertia's (i have 2 rideable Enertia's). This one is almost without noise (chain+motor), the other one makes more noise (high whistle) especially on low speeds.

This is great news...it's always nice to hear when one of our Enertias is save from the parts shelf.  ;D

Congratulations on your troubleshooting efforts.  As you probably already know, I believe that a V78 code is real time clock not working.  I have the same error on my bike.  I've also noticed that the trip meter reset button doesn't seem to respond.  Not sure if that is V78 related or not.

If you decide to replace the coin battery and the code clears let us know.

Thanks.

Good to hear you've got 2 running and 3rd as spare.
the coin battery is a source of dashboard issues, maybe some soldering needed to replace them.

yes I do live in NL (bij Nijmegen)

Is the VCU coin battery specifically used for the real time clock, or does it serve another purpose?

That's good to hear.  I wish that I could experience some of that same magic.

If anyone has any wisdom to share on the workings of the VCU battery I would be interested in learning about it.

Thanks.

I used a Coin Cell Button Battery Holder and CR2032 battery to solve my V78 fault.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J5FY2GI

The pins lined up exactly with the old battery soldered on terminal holes.

Thank you for the info. Very helpful.

I was able to finally clear my V78 fault by unplugging and replugging the dashboard display module while the bike was turned off. May or may not work in every situation but an easy thing to try.
