Brammo Empulse Mods / GOLD chain and sprockets :) on my Empulse R
« on: April 11, 2017, 08:10:17 AM »
After 50 K with the standard chain kit it was time to replace the front sprocket again,
As I still had a DID 520 gold plated chain from a previous bike, and some Supersprox sprockets, I thought it would me an excellent occasion to ad that "custom gold look"
Front sprocket is 13 (vs original 14) rear is 40 (stock 38)

How cool is that 8)

« on: March 26, 2016, 11:38:38 AM »
As far as I know, the following parts will fit:

Rear brake pads:
Galfer FD220
Braking 828SM1
Brembo 07BB2010
TRW MCB 700

Any suggestions for the front pads?

Like last year we are presenting our Brammo's on the annual MOTORBEURS UTRECHT
We will create awareness among the visitors about the existance of Electric Motorcycles and the beauty of the design of the Brammo.

Anyone who is attending from the 18th to the 21st of february, please drop by, share experience or just have a coffee with us.
If you like, you can spend some time on the booth and share your views with the public.
(send me a PM so I can keep an eye on the schedule  :) )
Cheers
(Yes, I am aware that the Brammo is not available anymore in Europe, but neither are TDM's FZR's and other neo-classics that are present in the Club section of the show)

Brammo Empulse / Think this sprocket is due for replacement.
« on: January 10, 2016, 07:04:06 AM »
After 20 K it looks like it is time for a front sprocket replacement.

I bought from my dealer an original 12 t front sprocket.
Number SL-07-12

It looks like a renthal 287-520-12
can anyone verify?

I kept the original chain and rear sprocket (only 20 K on them)

Although it is the warmest November day ever, inevitably winter will come.
After 20K km. it is time to replace the rear tyre. This is a record for me, on ICE bikes I hardly get to 10K. where 2.8K was the worst and 12K the best rear tyre.

To be prepared for muddy/snowy roads, I thought I'd try a M+S Tyre.
The Heidenau K60 Scout.
This tyre is quite a bit higher, so I lowered the spring compression to compensate.

Looks pretty rugged, don't you think?

I also fitted a leg cover, it is waterproof, protects the batteries a bit from freezing and keeps my legs warm and dry.
It features synthetic fur on the inside, inflatable side "frames" to prevent flapping in the wind, it's got a large pocket for small stuff that also contains a rain cover for the seat.
These covers are designed for Vespa's and you won't see these on ICE bikes as the hot exhaust and engine parts will melt the cover, but on Electric motorcycles it works very well.

Brammo Empulse / Please check your steering head bearings
« on: October 09, 2015, 02:17:02 PM »
Brammo specifies to check your steering head bearings every 5000 k (+repack with grease)
I discovered the bearings can develop play much sooner.

Now I can jack up the front more easily with my new device it is also easy to check the bearings' play.
They needed tightening after 2000K.

If you ride too long with excessive play on the bearings, they will wear out premature.

After riding the Empulse for one year now, rain, snow or shine, and 17,000 km on the odo. the chain and sprockets are still OK.
17K by itself is not a noticable performance for an O-ring chain, but I only had to adjust it once, half a turn on the (shortened) bolts.
Apart from that, there is virtually no maintenance on the chain.
The wheel bearings failed at some point, that illustrates the harsh conditions the bike went trough.
Also a luggage strap caught the chain guard and ripped the end off. Luckily the dual nozzle from the chain oiler stayed intact.

The Pro-Oiler chain oiler system never failed to pick up satellite signals and adjusted the oil flow very economically accordingly, I topped up the system twice with about 100ml. 5W30 engine oil (left over from my car)

I used to take an hydraulic jack under the exhaust manifold or engine to raise the front end on ICE bikes.
On the Empulse the "belly" contains vulnerable electronics which will be squished if the traditional method is to be used :o

Today I will be creating paddock stand that raises the front end, using the crash bung mounting points.
I started by adding spools to the crash bungs that I mounted last year.

The spools are from Rothewald, opened up to 10mm. to accept the crash bung bolt.

Now it is time to scavenge some iron bars.. back in a few hours

Brammo Empulse / Yikes! Fault Codes: A6, B6, B40 - Dead ->fixed
« on: May 19, 2015, 01:49:23 PM »
Hope this can be fixed before te meeting in june.
After a long episode of riding with the Error code B9, the dash flashed some new codes on the display.
The engine stopped and I was coasting among heavy traffic on the highway.
Fortunately the engine started again and I was on my way again.
In the evening this happened again a few times.
While charging the B40 code reappeared and the headlight flashes at regular intervals(!?)

Today I rented a trailer and dropped the bike at the dealer for repair. ****puzzled****

Brammo Empulse / Rear wheel bearing fail at 10K, NO warranty?
« on: April 18, 2015, 07:00:06 AM »
Came at a squeaking stop last week, rear wheel bearings desintegrated.
Was it the salt from last winter? I don't know.
But at 10K (kilometres, 6 months) seems a bit early to me, on my other bikes the rear tyre is gone long before the bearing.
I was pretty convinced that it would be covered by my warranty, but the dealer refused, charged full amount and labour.

What is your opinion on this?
