So.... anyone got/or will install anti theft devices on their rides? Ideas? comments?
Was thinking at the very least a disk lock for whenever I'm out and about, or when it's home on a weekend we're gone (we have a house alarm as well). Might eventually get a 2-way alarm. I do have a cheapo alarm that I can install on the bike somewhere, as close to the DC-DC as possible. I don't think the thiefs would even know where to look.

I searched for theft and didn't find it.... sorry bout that. good info. I was looking at one of those, small, compacy and easy to bring with me if I'm going somewhere I want to lock it up.

The ex-thief was saying: $100 disc lock on rear wheel, $150 chain/lock combo through hard parts not chain and not wheels, if it has to be a wheel put it through the rear one, lockable bike cover, and keep your steering locked

Thanks for that; lots of excellent info there. I am not used to having a bike worth much of anything, so this is all new to me.
I actually don't want an alarm on the disc lock, as I would generally like people to be able to plug/unplug me from charging stations without a crazy alarm going off. Like the Chevy Volt's alarm, which fires if you unplug the car (once fully charged, of course) while it is locked; insanely annoying.
Anyway, considering getting one of these:

Under the assumption that they are of the same quality as their alarmed brethren. Unless anybody has a better recommendation?

I am not a fan of disc locks, as I have a bad memory and if you forget to take the lock off before you drive off, bad things can happen. I know there are ways to remind you that the lock is on, but the risk it too great for my taste.
My preference is to use the fork lock and cover the bike with a cloth cover, with maybe a lock on grommets along the lower edge to make it more difficult to remove or lift the cover. Out of sight, out of mind. If a thief wants your bike, they will just haul it away in a van, placing a skate board under the wheel to get it into the van. But if they can't see what is under the cover, then they are less likely to think about stealing it.

Disc locks definitely help, but not from this.

Of course you can chain it down, but that doesn't even stop bicycle thieves. At least you won't die of fuel fumes if you keep it inside. :)
