Title: Empulse Registry
Post by: protomech on February 05, 2013, 06:02:55 PM
We're starting to get a number of Empulse owners on the forum .. seems like the Empulse is selling pretty well for a hand-assembled $19k bike : )

Any interest in collecting ownership info in one place?

If interested in registering, please post info in the following format. I'll grab it and update the table .. though eventually a google docs format might work more easily.
date purchased, model purchased, color, forumname, location, VIN

For the VIN only the last 5 digits are needed. Feel free to leave off the VIN or obscure it eg 0003x if you like.

Date PurchasedModelColorForumnameLocationVIN (last 5 digits)

This seems like the kind of info that should be on the Brammo Owners Map (http://brammoforum.com/brammo-owners-map.php). It's already got the location and the bike. I think it needs some attention though because:

Adding extra data like purchase date and last digits of the VIN might be easy.
It would be really cool if the map markers would look slightly different based on the bike type and color.

Do you mean, how do we get his attention?

Indeed. Was the brammo owners map his work or Empulse Buyer's?

Skadamo said EmpulseBuyer coded the map

Yes, EB coded it and I was involved to the extent that when they started talking about databases and such, I tuned them out.

I agree that the basic map needs some work.

Let me beckon them here and see what they can add to this conversation.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!

Hey fellas... I think last I heard about this we were going to clean all the owner data out of the db. I can also refine the code and include the requested features... though just like everything else in my life I seem to have misplaced it, but thats just a matter of looking through old archives.

Adding extra data like purchase date and last digits of the VIN might be easy.
It would be really cool if the map markers would look slightly different based on the bike type and color.

Extra data is no problem... as for the icons, problem here is the old gmaps API has been deprecated and I cant figure out "overlays" with the new code... So that may have to wait for now.

I dont code for a living BTW, its just one of my twisted hobbies.

For now I will dig up the old code and wait for John to send me the DB export.

You guys ROCK!

I think cleaning the owner data out would be a good idea, seems inaccurate. Maybe have an option as "current owner" with VIN and Purchase data and "future owner". I think it'd be nice to know who actual owners are, so we can meet up and ride.

The main change I think we want would be be converting from Empulse 6/8/10 over to Empulse R and Empulse as well as Enertia and Enertia Plus.

I'm curious why the push for adding VINs to the database?

To separate owners from non owners?

VIN serials are a nice way to get an approximate sense of how quickly the bikes are selling, and it's nice to be able to say I own this particular bike.

I imagine some people would rather not disclose their VIN, so I think it should be an optional field (if present at all).

With respect to VINs, I have this odd cognitive disconnect between "Isn't that personal information" and "Well, it's posted there on the front of your bike frame for anyone to see".  I literally can't think of a single reason why it should be considered personal information, but that's the neuron bucket it is filed under in my brain for some reason.

As far as verifying ownership, I'm sure if someone were truly motivated they could hang back and pick a number that seems to have gone unclaimed if they really wanted to pretend.

On the Tesla forums they are tracking VINs (and paid deposit numbers) for largely the same reason (tracking volume numbers), and they spend a fair bit of time wondering about why various deliveries got various VIN numbers.  It could appeal to my OCD Math Geek side, but I kind of feel like it is worrying about why different leaves fall face up or down.

None of that is meant to be any rhetorical argument one way or another, just random musings on what's going on in my brain.

Would this be a forum feature tied to their forum membership or an external site independently managed?

I would love to see the map of owners be popular, though, so anything that can be done to make it more inviting and not intimidating would be a plus in my book.  I think zip code, name (first, last, or whatever they want to put) and forum handle and optional purchase date and optional VIN would make a good set of data.  They should feel free to leave just their name or their forum handle or both, just something to refer to them by - unless it is a forum feature and thus their handle would be a given.

Contact info could be handled by encouraging them to sign up for the forum (unless it is a forum feature directly) and using the PM feature.

Just my 2c offered with no restocking fee...

Executive decision issued from the Brammoforum legal department: no VINs.

The map really needs a "delete" option. I can't delete my name from it. Until someone gets tired of playing with their Empulse (like THAT's going to happen...), I don't think I belong on that map. Unless you guys can create a "supporter" tag...  8) You can name it "fan on foot"... or something less lame.

Just to challenge authority, I'm changing my handle to my VIN...once I know it. ;D

I've already done that (sort of). ;)

My signature has the last numbers of my VIN. It's actually the history of my place in the queue.

I started off 935th in the waiting list. Moved up to 595 after all the fake and dead pre-orders were purged, and ended up with bike 44! If I had a lot more patience, or a lot less cash, I would have waited for the non-R and probably ended up with a much larger number.

Sorry for my lack of responses here guys. I lost my job 3 weeks ago (company went under) and was in a hurry to get re-employed, so I have been focusing on that. My new job started today and I have a ton of stuff I gotta get figured out... Once things level off I should have some extra time to revise the owners map and add the requested features.

Damn.  Good to hear that you got a new job relatively quickly.

The map is obviously not a priority. Take this time to put your disrupted life back in order.

Please email me if there is anything I can do to help.

No able to input an Empulse R in Hong Kong on the map but thought I would mention that the Empulse has finally completed type approval in Hong Kong and we have registered our first bike from ages ago...000019.
Exciting times to come :)
