Victory Empulse / Elcon HK-J 3300KW charger
« on: July 18, 2019, 11:09:38 PM »
I contacted Elcon TC to get a pre-programmed charger for the Empulse and they got back to me requesting for the following information:

Quote
Please confirm the information below so that we can set the charger accordingly. Please answer  the question below.

Please confirm that is your batteries system are LiFePo4, Lithium ion or lead acid batteries?
--
For LiFePO4 or Lithium,
1)How many cells in series of your batteries system?
--
2)Capacity of cell.
--
3)If possible, let us know the brand of cell and model.
--
4)if any special requirement.

Can any of you guys help me out with this info?
Also anyone tried these chargers with the Empulse (Victory or Brammo)?

Victory Empulse / Belt drive conversion:
« on: June 02, 2019, 11:53:13 PM »
I have listed some points down here:

1. Is it possible? (I think yes from some basic research i did)
2. Advantages:
Weight savings, Less inertial mass for the motor to work with, Almost no maintenance, Lesser noise and also
    no drivetrain backlash maybe?
3. Disadvantages:
Expensive if belt fails, anything else?

Are my observations correct?

Also wanted to know the effort to do the conversion and do you guys think its worth it with the advantages?

Victory Empulse / Oil leak from transmission fixes?
« on: May 06, 2019, 03:16:28 AM »
I very recently completed 10k miles and observed some leak around the plastic cover around the transmission/motor area on the left hand side of the bike. i took it to the local dealer in San Jose to get it checked and they mentioned that the leak was not much, but it was probably due to a failed gasket or housing inside the transmission. And unfortunately they said that they could not work on any repairs on the bike.

My best guess is that the gaskets in the transmission needs replacement and i may need to find someone to do this job. Any thoughts would help!

Brammo Empulse Mods / LSR fenders
« on: March 26, 2019, 03:04:16 PM »
Have any of you tried one of these Land Speed Record front fenders?
http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/landspeed/landspeed.htm

Seems like a worthy try to get some aero gains without "uglifying" the bike too much?

Has anyone tried this on the Empulse?

Any recommendations?

Brammo Empulse Mods / Excerpt from Brandon (diginow supercharger):

Yup, if you are in San Jose we can do the upgrade for you. The Brammo install is not safe for DIY as the brammo has no real safety features in it. It is a dangerious install, but we have done it before.

The last Brammo we upgraded rode from Carmel to rosarito Mexico with me and 3 others on Zeros.

My recommendation would be just a the dual unit 6.6kw total install replacing the onboard charger. This will max out most J1772 stations and charge your bike almost 300% faster. The dual units fit in the same area as the onboard charger, but the black cowling needs to be removed when we do the install as it is just a bit too small and hinders cooling.

I do not have a price for the install at the moment.

Also, there are a few quirks with the brammo system which may seem obvious after I explain them.

1) the brammo must be on to update the guage while charging. This is why your tail light comes on when charging with the stock charger. For our last install we added a small volt meter to the bike for the owner which ended up being far more accurate for him when guaging range.

2) if you charge the bike while it is off the guage will not update the battery % for some time. It will also show a message like "S04" or something similar which means the battery voltage and guage do not match. This is why we installed the voltmeter guage on the other bike.

After being powered off for several hours the BMS will recalculate the state of charge on the dash finally and show the correct amount.

3) it is possible to implement the same tail light on process to prevent 1 and 2 but no one has been bothered enough by this to warrant spending the time and money on this.

_---------

There is another option which is not quite as cool nor as clean; that is for us to make you a tail mount bracket for the chargers. This however would prevent you from being able to take a passenger. The integrated install replacing the onboard charger is really the best, but this would work if you preferred.

Anyone interested? :)

He gave me a quote of 2.5k for the whole install! This is for the 6.6kw charger.

Brammo Empulse Mods / Carbon Fibre bits:
« on: April 13, 2017, 08:02:29 PM »
Anyone tried to fit any fairing elements from other bikes/manufacturers to the Empulse?

This one seems to have a sale going on for carbon fibre bits:
https://mdicarbonfiber.com/collections/summer-sale-2016

Was wondering if any bits from other bikes fit the enpulse? Any of u experimented before?

Brammo Empulse / NEMA 5-15 3.8kW charger??
« on: March 10, 2017, 07:32:38 PM »
Whats the deal with this charger?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7L1L8T?psc=1

It advertises 110-220v and 3.8kW (16A) output power from a standard 5-15 plug. How is that possible? isnt 5-15 always a 110v outlet?

Brammo Empulse Mods / 6.6 kW IP67 charger:
« on: November 14, 2016, 09:32:25 PM »
Anyone tried installing higher power charger onboard? I know there is a separate thread where Athlon has tried useing two 3.3kW chargers, but there has been no updates on that. Here is a charger that could work for the empulse, except that i dont know whether the 225-450VDC would be compatible with the battery on the Empulse.

http://www.currentways.com/ip67-bc-series-6-6kw-ev-battery-chargers/

Here's the spe datasheet for the charger:
http://www.currentways.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/DBC-Series-6.6kW-Bi-directional_OBC_Liquid-Cooled.pdf

This one is probably just the liquid cooled version of the one in the first link.

Thoughts?

Brammo Empulse / Charging rate at 2.5kW
« on: October 25, 2016, 05:35:51 PM »
Any idea why it maxes out at 2.5kW (24A) when the charger is rated at 3kW on a level 2 station? Its pretty cool out here too and i've been experimenting with charging when the batteries are cool or warm but i see the same max charge rate. Thoughts?

Brammo Empulse Mods / Charging input ports:
« on: October 12, 2016, 05:19:46 PM »
Does anyone know if the Empulse has more than one charging input ports? I just wanted to know if we could integrate the level 1 charger into the bike along with the level 2 charger. That way, we wouldn't have to carry the level 1 adapter all the time and maybe we could charge the bike with both chargers simultaneously.

Brammo Empulse Mods / Windshields:
« on: September 18, 2016, 06:13:24 PM »
I have an Empulse TT and i'm looking to get a windshield installed (not too tall not too short), so i just wanted to check with all u guys on the various windshields that u have/tried.

I'm looking at an MRA SpeedScreen rather than an MRA RacingScreen. I feel the speed screen is big enough for my needs. Have any of u tried that? If so, please share some pics if any :)

Also has anyone tried the shorter windscreens? Like:
http://www.giviusa.com/my-motorcycle/honda/cb1000r-11-13/247a-airstar-universal-windshield-detail
http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/puig-raptor-universal-windscreen

Would the puig fit on the Empulses?

Thanks,
Shayan
