Brammo Empulse / Re: Continuing: Battery communication service cable
« on: November 20, 2023, 10:35:03 AM »
Hello, these are interesting screen shots. I don't believe there is a fault. I've rewritten this post . I was re-reading the earlier parts of this thread and I felt there was a possible error. My understanding hopefully. The bike is "not turned on " for this test. Power to the cell boards is provided externally. The usb to rs485 is connected with 4 wires in 3 places. CAN H, CAN L and 2 wires in the negative. One of these  negatives is for CAN data and the other is the negative from the 12V 100mA power source (or battery with appropriate inline fuse) with the positive wire of the power source going to pin 7 on the bike connector with the other wires.  Please correct my understanding if this is wrong.
- 2.6A is not possible unless the bike is turned on and the cell heaters are running in the low test temperature.
Do you have a copy of a .chg or .drv file to examine? These are the best places to look for issues.

Hello, I've not been posting as far away from home however I would like to add to this thread. The Brammo or Victory software requires the rs485 to have a FTDI  chip. FT232RL USB to RS485 . On my bike the low battery warning displays at anything less than 20 per cent. gyvermc are you able to charge the batteries? The bike will shutdown to protect the batteries when the charge level is low.
Have you looked at the .drv or .chg files on the memory stick to see if it's one module causing issues. The battery software will flag some errors however the cells are not under load.
Interested to see how this develops. Great work.

Great racing and  a lot of fun out there. I was surprised there were baggers!  Clearly out for some enjoyment with no chance of being competitive.
It's a popular event and you did well.  The young woman proved tricky to pass in two rides. You made some good starts, surprised everyone was elbow to elbow!!
I watched your impression of the s2 del mar, Experia and ss9. Really enjoyed those videos, interesting roads but sooo bumpy..
You'll be buying an Experia then?

Hi Gio,  I have hopefully attached some of the smaller files below. The modules are numbered on the top row with 1 at the back and 4 near the steering head and on the lower row 5 at the front and 7 by the motor.
I open the file in Excel, freeze the top row so I'm able to read the headers.
Module 5 shows the highest relative humidity so should be looked at. These seem often to collect moisture. Difficult to say if it's condensation from changing temperature and weather or if rain drips off the tank, lands on the modules and creeps in.
No serious errors are shown that shutdown the bike, however bloated cells will need dealing with.
Have a read and see what you think. I hope other members will comment also

Off Topic / Re: 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 7 "strong hybrid"

This is interesting Richard .  I see the point and think it's a good concept.  Kawasaki are a good and reliable brand.
The petrol engine is great for highway use and eliminates range anxiety. The electric motor boosts acceleration and provides  low emissions around town. The stop start reducing heat build up whilst standing for lights etc. Something that becomes annoying after a while.
Courier rides in big cities will benefit, commuters  perhaps. I'm not thinking potential superbike owners will buy it.
I see no mention of weight or hybrid range. I guess we'll have the price soon enough and see how sales go.

I'm pleased the program runs. An armchair pastime for rainy days!

I see that. That file comes with the ixxat software. You don't need the ixxat hardware but you do need to download VCI 2.20  software from the ixxat website. The file is from a LabVIEW program that is parf of the suite. Hopefully that will fix it.
Quite the water line. Front mudguard is useless, I fear for the head bearing but maybe I should be worried about the modules. Done 10k km  in 3 years on mine. Bought it from Germany. Had 10k on then.
I've downloaded my data stick and all is well though module 6 on mine has 73 per cent humidity and the rest 55.
Rains here a lot too....... though fine and warm today in Lincolnshire. Take care

Hi Gio, welcome here. As mentioned above you really need the remove the usb data stick from inside the orange sleeve under the seat and post a couple of the .chg or .drv files (20 to 100k size).
It's likely the bike developed a fault, then was not used resulting in the batteries becoming faulty. There is a link on this site to a program to convert the files to Excel or you can just attach a couple and we'll feed back the information and converted file for you to read.
Hop that helps

As module 6 is so wet i thought I would add the data sheet below for a Honeywell sensor in case you feel the need to replace it. You'll have to make a judgment if it's the right one. It's definitely made by Honeywell, tiny writing on it and correct size.

Hello Bert, I've converted and uploaded the files below. You are correct, only the relative humidity value in module 6 is preventing a clean sweep of really good values.
To look at the files yourself you need the "bikelogstoexcel" program from this forum. There is a link to.the website .It's a zip that creates an exe file and another smaller file. It runs on my win10 64bit laptop.  You run it and then select the .drv or .chg file you want to convert. Then you need Excel to open the .csv file.
Hope that helps and I'm pleased your bike is running.

Hi acceler, I'm pleased you've found the cause of the data loss though sad at the same time and thank you for the image.
Was that board from module 7?
I hope you find no more damage and this can be rectified.
I was going to add to my earlier post that you might want to check the data connection area/ cable between boards 6 and 7 however that's answered now.
Thanks for keeping us updated.

Hi acceler, I do think you should remove board 7 and inspect the reverse looking for damaged tracks or other issues preventing communication making sure you do it safely.
The B40 code appears to set based on temperature or humidity errors, so around or under U14 and U38 which is next to it. You'll have to see what you find.
As the communication between  boards 5,6 and 7 is internal on a Victory Empulse and you can see corrosion on board 5 you may need to make a decision on that too.
Korbin was successful and we hope you will be also. Take care.

Hi acceler , just checking. Do you intend to remove the PCB from module 7 position and check the reverse?
On Victory bikes in the past leakage appears to dissolved some of the tracks on the back as they're upsidedown.
I can tell you're thinking about this.
Would you be able to replace the pouches with 18650's, keeping the current circuit board connections to simplify the change and if so how many mAh do you think this would give compared to the current level which I believe is 9000mAh. 10000mAh on a Victory as they have one more cell in each row.
Thanks

Hello Bert, I see where U38 is on your photos. It makes sense to be there. It's clear Brammo rapidly developed the boards. I don't have any images of A spec boards but B spec ones have a relay on them and U33 to U38 are missing. D spec boards like yours and I imagine mine and later boards for Victory bikes move on further.
Good to have someone along the corridor to cast an eye on things. Keep moving forward.
