Title: Here's what the Empulse Sounds like...
Post by: BrammoBrian on September 14, 2010, 04:13:12 PM
For the life of me I can't find the post where somebody asked to hear the bike without the music overlay in the video.... Anyhow... here you (whoever you are) go...

Very cool. And I hope nobody feels like I'm raining on their parade because I think the bike is VERY, VERY exciting, but I can't help wonder what that would sound like (or wouldn't sound like) with a carbon belt drive. ;)

Hope some of these great innovations on the Empulse can make it over to the Enertia!

That was me, Brian, in the "September News" thread under "Brammo News & Views".  I said the only news I really needed was to hear the sound of the Empulse at speed, and man does that clip ever hit the spot.  I've been watching the Enertia TTR Isle of Man video hoping that the Empulse would sound similar.  And it does.  What a great machine.

Thank you!

Ah-ha!  That explains it... I was scouring the Empulse threads, but didn't try the News thread. Glad you dig it.  It's even better in person... and if you think that's good, wait until you hear the Empulse RR... ;)

It even sounds high tech. I Like it! Now Brammo just needs to build and ship em :)

It's got to be the racing exhaust system that makes the RR sound good!   ;D  I couldn't help it, I HAD to say that!

I'd better find the 'go introduce yourself' section and do what it says.

Sounds even more like a TIE fighter than the TTR bike did.  Thanks for posting this, Brian!

I love the sound that all Brammo bikes make. I was initially put off by the sound of the Enertia because the motor sounds to me like you are going faster than you really are. I do think of Star Wars vehicle sounds now, and I study the different sounds it makes under different riding conditions (e.g. going uphill, going downhill, going into turns, coming out of turns.)

LOL! What you may lack in photoshop skills you make up for with... whatever skills it took to make that video, in spades. Good stuff!

Actually (to me) it illustrates the amount of noise that comes from the chain. I remember seeing a video of an electric motocross bike that was much louder than expected due to the chain and the knobby tires.
Im not unconvinced that the Brammo in the video was actually not louder than an R60/2 with stock mufflers. All of this begs the question of a belt or ring and pinion  drive rather than a chain but I suspect the high drive ratio of an electrically powered bike would make this technically difficult.

Wouldn't an ICE have the exact same chain noise, plus that of the engine? The reason the chain sounds so loud is that there isn't any other sound competing with it or drowning it out. Based on my experience with the Enertia I can't really hear the chain through the helmet while riding, I only hear a whine from the motor itself (and the wind).

You lost me, Doc.  That's a triple negative (I think).  Are you saying that the Brammo in the video might have been louder than an R60/2 with stock mufflers?

Because, if so, you're wrong.  Do you mean the BMW R60/2 from the 1960s?

Seriously, Doc.  You should have been at any one of the several electric motorcycle races last summer.  Surreal.

And I also agree with Highlander... the loudest thing I hear at speed on my Enertia (besides the wind) is the relatively quiet whine of the motor.  That, and the voices in my head telling me to ... forget I said that.

I also agree with Highlander on the motor sound vs. chain sound on the Enertia. At really low speeds, I can hear the chain, but the motor sound quickly overtakes it with any decent amount of throttle movement.
