Off Topic / The "EV Smile" - Article and videos for Nissan LEAF
« on: August 30, 2012, 05:58:47 PM »
Nissan of North America and their advertising agency, Chiat-Day, asked me to write an article for their blog about electric vehicles and the videos I make about people that own them.

Below is the link.

Off Topic / Jackson Browne Is An EV Guy
« on: May 08, 2012, 08:45:29 PM »
In the continuing series of short videos I make about people and the EV experience, my latest stemmed from a conversation I had with Jackson Browne at a dinner party of a mutual friend. He and I started started talking about electric cars and he said he had a Volt so I asked if he'd be the subject of one of my videos and he was kind enough to say yes.

Editing soon, but here is a screen grab from the shoot yesterday.

Off Topic / Video On How Fabio Became An Electric Motorcycle Lover
« on: April 04, 2012, 05:17:32 AM »
Been wanting to shoot a follow up to my Brammo Stories Episode One for some time, but I've not been able to find any subjects here is SoCal.

Therefor, I shot a video about Fabio and how his appearance in a Plug In America public service commercial and behind the scenes documentary I made facilitated him becoming a spokesperson for electric vehicles and an electric motorcycle owner.

Sorry to say that the brand he rides is not a Brammo but I made certain that when I shot this and edited it I got a couple of Enertias in the video. I've included a link if anybody is interested in it. Alexandra Paul (beautiful, dedicated and intelligent) also stars in this.

Off Topic / Big Blonde now riding an e-bike
« on: January 11, 2012, 07:30:13 PM »
Well, not the kind of blonde you were hoping but it got you to look :D

Some of you may have seen the video I made called Brammo Stories Episode One. I was planning on doing one a month but there was only one other Enertia owner that I could find in the Los Angeles area and he was camera shy.

I really would rather focus on Brammo bikes since I really like these bikes and the company but with no subjects there can be no videos.

A little over a year ago I met Fabio when he did a cameo in one of our Plug In America's PSAs about the advantages of EVs. He did it as a favor to our casting director but had no previous contact with any electric vehicles. I interviewed him for a documentary I was making about the making of the PSAs and coached him about EVs and what to say.

Our PSAs and the little doc I shot got a lot of coverage and the major news outlets picked up his involvement and they wanted to interview him about EVs.

He kind of became a new spokes person for the EV world, which was weird since he didn't know anything about EVs until he spent time on the set and I gave him some talking points.

Zero motorcycles saw this and gave him an electric motorcycle (and they are giving him 3 more 2012's when they come out) and all he has to do is ride it around and talk about it. I wanted to do a follow up about this strange turn of events and his new electric bike. I went to his house and shot a bunch of stuff with him about his life and e-bikes.

He is a major gear head, with a 950 hp Porsche, a tricked out Mercedes and a Lamborghini. But the kicker is he has 211 motorcycles, all of them at his house.

I did tell him about the Empulse and he was VERY interested. He asked me to ride with him when my Enertia + arrived, which seems like it would be an interesting experience.

Here is just a screen grab from the shoot.

Off Topic / National Plug In Day - EV record set
« on: October 19, 2011, 04:06:31 AM »
Last Sunday was the first National Plug In Day which was sponsored by Plug In America and the Sierra Club. There were EV events with a parade in several cities.

In Santa Monica we had a huge event in front of City Hall and after a parade down Main Street. We had what we believe to be the largest assembly of registered EV's (full cars and truck, not the Neighborhood Electric Vehicles which can only go up to 25 mph, although two did sneak in) ever to assemble.

We had 188 electrics not counting the NEVs. 13 were motor cycles. 2 Vectrixs, 2 Brammos and the rest Zeros. The majority of the cars were Nissan Leafs with 107 of them followed by a much smaller number of Volts and then Teslas and a few others. I made a sped up version of the parade which can be seen here.

Here's a 90 second sequence of a short film I'm making about the Nissan Leaf. This segment is about places an owner will never have to take it.

Off Topic / An e-bike now chain free - And did he flip it?
« on: February 08, 2011, 07:37:30 PM »
I don't want to post the name of this bike since this is the Brammo forum and I don't want it to look like I'm promoting the maker because I'm not, but there is an e-motorcycle now using a belt drive which they claim is "maintenance free."  I still like the form factor of the Enertia better and I'm sticking with my Brammo loyalty.

The unmentioned bike seems like it is 3/4 size in comparison to the Enertia, but I really like the belt drive concept and really like how quiet it is. Also another place to cut the ties to oil even if it is just lubricating oil and it is one less thing to have to take care of. Hope someday Brammo might make the switch to a belt drive system.

Also, at the end of the video, do you think the rider was able to bring the bike down or did he go over the bars and flip it? Looks like he crossed the line of no return to me but they end the video just before the outcome but I've never been in that position on a bike so I don't know the possibilities.

Brammo Enertia Plus / Different Seat For Enertia Per Craig?
« on: January 13, 2011, 06:05:41 PM »
Quote from a Tweet on Craig's page.

"@BrammoCraig Do you make an E-bike for short people like me? Keeping both feet on the ground while stationary helps me stay balanced. Thx!" ElectricCarMuse

@ElectricCarMuse We are working on a different seat for the Enertia, but also have something else in mind! Thanks!     4:31 PM Jan 7th  via TweetDeck  in reply to ElectricCarMuse"

http://twitter.com/BrammoCraig

Hope they really don't make the seat lower unless it is adjustable. I'm 6 feet 4 inches. But if they do change the seat I hope that that they make it with supports so a trunk can be fitted on the back to store a helmet and other stuff.

Brammo News And Views / Looking For California Brammo Owners
« on: November 30, 2010, 05:22:35 PM »
Looking for Enertia riders located in Southern California to be in upcoming episodes of the series, "Brammo Stories." In case you have not seen Episode One yet, look at the thread on this site at:

http://brammoforum.com/index.php?topic=448.0

Even if you are not in L.A. I'd like to hear from you. I might be able to travel to you at some point.

It's fun, easy and you'll be memorialized as an EV trailblazer! Our first subject, Jeff, aka "Werm_Works" here on Brammo Owners Forum was not an actor or performer and he had fun and looked great in his profile.

So step up and be in the series. And if you know of a candidate, let me know. You can pm me here or e-mail me directly at KellyROlsen@aol.com or even call me at 310-453-4784.

Brammo News And Views / Brammo Stories Series
« on: November 13, 2010, 05:24:32 AM »
I've started a film series called Brammo Stories. It's short profiles of Brammo Enertia owners and there story about buying and owning the bike. I just completed Episode One featuring Jeff Calimlim, aka Werm Works. He was really great and I am including a link to his Brammo story here.

I'm ready to start Episode Two and am looking for the next victim, I mean subject. The only requirement is owning an Enertia and being in Southern California since this is where I am. I'm easy to work with, just ask Jeff, and it will be fun. Take a look at the video and step up to be next.

And let me know what you think of it.

Off Topic / Plug In America PSA's Promoting EV's
« on: November 10, 2010, 08:48:35 PM »
Here is a link to the behind the scenes documentary/interviews I directed for the making of Plug In America's public service spots promoting EV's.

The spots themselves are a take off of the Apple Vs. PC and are airing now. I'll put a link to them in the next message.

Brammo News And Views / Best Buy W.L.A. No Longer EV Displayer
« on: November 08, 2010, 08:57:46 PM »
I stopped at the West Los Angeles Best Buy, which is one of the larger stores and was displaying the Brammo Enertia as well as several other electric bike and scooters, and all the two wheeled electric machines were gone from the floor. The entire section that had the bikes and accessories like helmets, gloves, locks, had disappeared.

I asked three people about the Brammo and none had any idea what a Brammo was, so I said "big electric motorcycle" and one guy said "oh, there is one in the stereo installation garage," which was closed at 3:30 in the afternoon.

Two other sales people said they never heard of a Brammo Enertia and when I explained what it was one still didn't know anything about it and the other one said that they might have one in their smaller Westwood store a few miles away or maybe the El Segundo store. I asked if he could check and instead he said I could go to the computer department and try to get online and go to the Best Buy website. I went to the computer department but was unable to get to the internet with any computer.

I just checked the Best Buy website from home and it lists the Enertia as a "pick up in store only" at the West Los Angeles and El Segundo stores. So, it looks like you can order and pick it up from these two stores, but you can't look at one, at least at the W.L.A. store. Maybe there is one in the garage where they install stereos as one person claimed, and maybe you can test ride it, but they have odd hours in that garage.

Here's a little video I shot of one of the regular Friday night classic car and motorcycle get togethers in Burbank featuring the Enertia and a familiar face or two.

I was just going through the California DMV Motorcycle Handbook to study for the motorcycle license test and I came across the following:

Motorcycle Skills Test

Basic vehicle control skills are in-cluded in the motorcycle skills test to determine your ability to maneuver in normal traffic situations. You will be asked to identify nine items on your motorcycle before the actual riding portion of the test. The items you will be asked to identify are the:• Starter• Kill switch• Clutch• Throttle• Gear selector• Dimmer switch• Brakes• Turn signals• Horn.

Gear Shift Ride – Ride in a straight path, shifting gears up, then down, complete a U-turn and return, shifting gears up, then down and end in a smooth stop at the starting point.

Going to be hard to point out the clutch and then shift gears on an e-bike. In fact, not hard, more like impossible. I can already see the DMV worker saying that the test requires you to do these things and that you must fulfill the test requirements because that is what the rules say. You know how they are about rules.

Should never have let my motorcycle rating lapse. But at some point they are going to have to acknowledge e-bikes when there gets to be more of them on the road and either change the rules for the test to allow for e-bikes or make two types of licenses.

Brammo News And Views / AltCar Expo In Santa Monica
« on: August 25, 2010, 08:07:43 PM »
I know this was posted and the Group Rides and Meetings thread, but I thought I'd risk the ire of the webmasters.

The annual AltCar Expo in Santa Monica is going to be held October 1st and 2nd at the Santa Monica Civic Center. The "Alt" stems from Alternative Fueled Cars. All the major electric car makers AS WELL AS BRAMMO will be attending. The actuall production model of the Nissan Leaf will be debuted as well.

It really is a lot of fun, and very interesting. The public will be able to test drive many of the cars. And it is FREE admission.

Just as a disclaimer, yes, I'm really boasting a bit since I was a City Councilman in Santa Monica and created the City's first Alternative Fueled Vehicle Policy, which resulted in the City being first in many ways when it comes to EV's and EV charging stations.

So this Expo is really an offshoot of this policy. Forgive me for my touting this event, but I'm a little bit proud of it. And it is really interesting, so if you are in the region, go to it. Did I mention it is FREE?

Would really be good to see a bunch of Enertias there - other than what is going to be in the Brammo booth.
