"It was important to Brammo to create a great motorcycle and we paid attention to customer feedback to create just that," said Craig Bramsher, CEO and president of Brammo. "From concept to production the Empulse product has evolved quite a bit. We are bringing you a different motorcycle that promises to be more than what our riders expected."

The two models vary as follows:

The Empulse body work is all plastic, has semi adjustable front suspension and semi adjustable rear suspension.

The Empulse R uses carbon fiber for headlight shroud, front and rear fenders, top panel and the rear light housing.

Brammo promised that of the first 1000 people who pre ordered an Empulse, one would be selected at random to receive their motorcycle free of charge. Last week from the first 1000 orders six finalists were selected. At the event, Craig Bramscher rolled a dice and Jueiming Chen was the lucky winner.

There are more details online at the below link.

From today's press release:

At the launch party, Brammo announced the Empulse and Empulse R will cost $16,995 and $18,995 respectively with financing available from Sheffield Financial. Through this financing, customers will be able to purchase the new Empulse and Empulse R from Brammo dealers as follows:

Empulse: 8.9% for 72 months at $303, 6.9% financing for 60 month at $334 and 3.9% for 36 months at $499

Empulse R: 8.9% for 72 months at $339, 6.9% financing for 60 month at $373 and 3.9% for 36 months at $558

==================================================================================

I just gave Sheffield Financial a call to see what financing terms they were offering on the Brammo Empulse now that the price range known.

I spoke with their sales department. They are aware of Brammo and I was told:

Interest Rate 3.9% for 36 months
Interest Rate 6.9% for 60 months
Interest Rate 8.9% for 72 months

I think the rates are decent for a brand new product like the Empulse.

I am planning to finance whichever Empulse version I finally decide to buy. I am leaning toward the Non-R at the moment.

Brammo Empulse / Empulse questions answered by Brammo
« on: April 24, 2012, 09:27:39 AM »
When the e-mail went out to people who pre-ordered the Empulse, there was an option to send Brammo questions. Here are three questions that I asked Brammo and the answers came from Adrian Stewart, Brammo's Director of Marketing.

Here are the questions I asked via e-mail:

Question: Will the Empluse (non-R) be a two-seater?

Answer: I think you can safely assume the non R will also be a two seater.

Question: Will there be a loyalty bonus for Enertia owners who upgrade to the Empulse?

Answer: There will not be a loyalty bonus for Enertia owners wanting to move to the Empulse.
However, we will be encouraging Brammo dealers to be confident in high resale values when trading
            in Enertias.

Question: Will it be OK to post any answers to the Brammo Owners Forum?

Answer: I am good with you posting those replies.

This is a good sign.

Off Topic / How is your source of electricity created?
« on: January 17, 2012, 03:30:07 PM »

I often read blanket statements on forums that electric motorcycle riders are doing the equivalent of burning coal instead of gasoline or petrol that you would normally use in ICE bikes. The argument is that to generate the electricity we use to ride, we need to be getting that electricity from a source that burns coal (at least in the USA).

My electricity supplier has provided me the sources of how my electricity is generated. Here is the breakdown of how my electricity is created:

43.10%   Natural Gas
14.50%   Nuclear
12.80%   Hydro-Electric
12.80%   Low Impact Hydro-Electric
5.70%   Wind
4.30%   Oil
3.80%   Coal
2.70%   Other
0.30%   Recycling Municipal Trash
Total 100.00%

Burning coal is pretty low on my list. The price for Natural Gas has been falling, so I would expect my electricity rate to come down soon.
Eventually, I would like to generate my own electricity using renewable sources like using solar panels or burning a bio-fuel like algae.
Do you know where your electricity comes from?

This just posted on the Green Tech Media website.

It is basically a review of information, but it is nice to see more articles about Brammo.

Brammo CEO Craig Bramscher tells Lora Kolodny about his company's green road to motorcycle manufacturing and construction. The event was held in May of 2011, but I had not seen this video.

"The AC permanent magnet motor on the preproduction version is also being tweaked and will likely increase its 54-horsepower output. The 9.7-kilowatt-hour lithium ion battery pack will rate between 9.5 and 10 in the production version, Bramscher said."

Sweet, more horsepower.

LA Times article with some nice Empulse details. Ignore the dufus comments posted at the site (at least so far.)

"Many police motorcycles in regular use for traffic enforcement don’t rack up 50 miles per day, which is well within the range for [electric] bikes in current production. The downside here is that police bikes often have high electrical demands for emergency lights, siren, radios, and radar/laser devices.
The two leading makers of electric motorcycles are Zero Motorcycles in Scotts Valley (Calif.) and Brammo in Ashland (Ore.). Brammo’s heaviest street model is the Empulse, with a range of 100 miles and a top speed of 100+ mph."

"Leyden's cell technology presents a very real advantage for a vehicle battery pack in terms of thermal management, life-cycle performance, and energy density," says Brian Wismann, director of product development at Brammo, a company that is developing electric motorcycles and is interested in using Leyden's technology.

Some nice technical information about Leyden battery chemistry and where things might be headed for Brammo.

Previous bikes had only used carbon fibre for cosmetic purposes, but this year Brammo created structural components from prepreg to significantly reduce the weight of the bike in order to increase performance.

It was recently announced that there will be a TTXGP North America Championship race on June 18th in Loudon, NH.

Here is the announce race schedule: http://www.egrandprix.com/index_nav.php?cat=races

I am planning to attend and I will try to take pictures and maybe video while I am there.

I hope I can see the Empulse RR when I am there.

Here is a brief article that has a nice video of the Empulse.

Brian Wismann, director of product development director at Brammo provides a short history of the models development during a factory tour.

It all started in 2009 on the Isle Man (IOMTT) with two electric motorcycles based on the technology developed for the Enertia (first model of the brand).

These high performance versions developed specifically for racing received with great critical acclaim from press and public, which led Brammo to develop a series model directly derived from the race version that offers similar performances, it is called the Empulse.
