Yes - the production wheels accept a 5 x 100mm bolt pattern, which is the same as the "Marchesini race" pattern.

Thanks Brian!  Even if there's a factory fix its, good to know if playing with gearing too.

Any ideas on  where to find replacement rear sprockets? My new digital torque wrench is itchy!

I'm sure guys like Renthal will have one that will fit...  We'll have to ask Brammo if their wheel/sprocket/rotor setup is the same with any other common bikes since the Empulse is too new to show up in anyone's parts lists yet:

http://www.renthalroad.com/File/products_rearchainwheels.aspx

Renthal has various ones that fit "Marchesini Race Wheels", so I'm curious if the bolt patterns are the same for the street wheels on the Empulse?

It would be fun to get a slightly larger sprocket just to play with some gearing too!  Wheelies anyone!?!?   :P

A Teflon sticker (where did you get it?) seems a very temporary fix, though better than the swing arm pivot being breached.

I ordered the Teflon pads from Amazon.  It really only needs to be 1"x1", but I cut a 2"x1" in half.  Here's a link to the same thing, but ordering 1"x1" ones might be a little cheaper if you can find them:

I was doing a little cleaning and my rag snagged on the lower part of the swing arm pivot...

Looks like the chain on the Empulse rubs on the swing arm pivot since the front sprocket size makes for a tight fit.  It cuts into the surface finish and runs it down to the metal underneath.

I installed an adhesive backed Teflon pad to use as a chain guard, and after one ride it was clearly being rubbed on.

Going up one tooth on the front or rear sprocket (rear is probably safer - it's tight fit in the front) might solve the problem.

I e-mailed the guys at Brammo since they could come up with a chain guard/protector, but in the meantime the Teflon pad is preventing more damage to the swing arm.

Anyone else notice this on their bike?

Looks awesome!  So...was this just a "sample" part they sold you, or are they taking orders for these yet?

Do you know which bar ends for the Empulse bars?

http://www.e-securedsite.com/rhinomoto/store/myProducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=4%7CBarend%20Sliders%20and%20Mirrors&productID=73&showDetail=1&categoryID=79|CRG%20Barend%20Mirrors&vendoridtodisplay=0&filterFor=&collection=4%7CBarend%20Sliders%20and%20Mirrors

Gavin

The interior dimension of the bars on the Empulse is 18mm, so the .675"-.725" Mirror Mounts should probably work.

In addition to ChargePoint, you can look up stations with PlugShare and download their app for your smartphone.  It's useful to map out all the known charging stations in your area (user-submitted data, along with reviews):  http://www.plugshare.com

While I carry a ChargePoint card since Northern California is pretty well served (and many city stations are free), PlugShare is great for locating lots of other options.

Rhino Moto also makes some really nice bar end sliders that also have a groove to mount CRG mirrors:  http://www.rhinomoto.com/bar-end-sliders.html

I put a set of the Rizoma bar end mirrors on my bike, but they are a little too small.  The CRG Lane Split mirrors give much better visibility and the folding feature is nice.  In hindsight, I would have stuck with those and not experimented with the Rizomas (more style over function).

Or...if you really want to go crazy and shave weight...  BST Carbon Fiber wheels: http://www.blackstonetek.com

Just think of the handling and potential range improvements!  Who's going nuts and installing the first set?   :P

And as has been mentioned before, it's not even a foot that you need to roll the bike back: just a few inches. Throttle works too, but that's too much precision work for me! :-[

I figured I'd post the "easy" way, but I've also noticed you can feel when the motor starts to move a bit on the rollback too.  But I'm with you, the throttle works, but the "roll" is 100%.   ;D

Doing the slight roll back after coming to a stop has become second nature to me now since launching the bike off the line is a seriously fun addiction!

Since this technique (first mentioned by Shinysideup for smooth starts) got a little overshadowed in the transmission technical debate...

1) From a stop with the Empulse in 1st gear

2) Roll the bike back 1 foot

3) Pin the throttle!!!

This will result in a super smooth launch off the line with no clunk, thump, etc.  Just the blast of acceleration!

By rolling the bike back a bit, you will have taken up the slight transmission lash/slack, and you're set.  It's so fast and smooth, you'll grin at every stop light.

On the tire pressure point...

I've played around a bit since the Avon's run a bit cold and tried running them at lower pressures to get them to heat up a bit more, but range definitely suffers.

For quicker rides in the hills, I've dropped them to 32F/34R, but I was planning on over 100 miles of riding last weekend (with some charging along the way) and put the tires back up to 38F/42R (42 front just seems too high to me  ;)).

Comparing range, it makes a BIG difference with the lower vs. higher pressures.  I haven't kept a strict log, but it seems like it may vary as much as 10-20% more range with the higher tire pressures when riding at highway speeds.

Quick update...  I ended up going with Progressive.  They already have the Empulse in their online quote tool (although there's a bug since it says to put "0" in for CC's on electrics, but I had to use "1" to get it to proceed - this was on advice from one of their agents).

At least they're a step of two ahead of other companies that had no idea what the Empulse is and freaked out when they heard it was electric - "we can't risk the liability".   :P

Looks like GMAC/National General Insurance doesn't want to insure the Empulse R...

Any other new owners have better luck with their insurance company or have an Enertia insured with a company that's not afraid of electric motors?

Is there enough room behind those panels below the seat that you could install a permanent heat controller? IIRC, they don't take up a lot of depth.

I think so - take a look at my third from last photo.  You could probably slip it in-between the frame rail and the EV charger (there's a bit of a gap on that side).

I couldn't tell from your photo, but is the knob for the heat controller remote, or do you need to mount the controller directly behind a plastic panel?
