Brammo Empulse / Empulse parts source- Polaris
« on: January 04, 2017, 10:07:53 AM »
So I just wanted to share my experience, since parts availability is always a concern. I cracked the rear (underseat) plastics in a garage mishap, sending me into a panic about finding a replacement part. Prior experience with Victory dealer pretty much ruled them out. On a hunch, I googled for Victory Empulse TT parts fiche, and what do you know, you can order directly from the Polaris website! I've never seen that before from an OEM (usually you either have to go through dealer, or third parties like BikeBandit):
http://store.victorymotorcycles.com/en-us/parts/#/s/VIC/V16EZBRRBB%2fCB//1

I found the part that I needed, seemed like a direct match, second pleasant surprise- $40 for OEM plastics, nice! Ordered on the 26th, had some questions so called up and was able to talk to a human pretty easily, shipped on the 29th and arrived yesterday. All in all, a pretty pleasant experience!

I know some people are down on Polaris, for a host of good reasons, but at least our bike is not a full fledged orphan when it comes to parts....which is nice!

Brammo Empulse / Battery drained, now not charging
« on: November 13, 2016, 05:01:44 PM »
First of all, I messed up. I have a newborn in the house and the bike had sat for about 2 weeks. I went to hop on for a quick ride, but the charge was down to 6%, and being in a hurry I went and grabbed the car and apparently left the key in the on position. I came back to it two days later with the bike dead, while the key was in the on position. Switched to off and plugged in the charger- nothing.

Today I tried some trouble shooting. Checked the fuse boxes. The standard fuses are fine. The high voltage fuses, which would be my guess for the culprit, are opaque (brilliant design guys) so I can't tell if they're good or not. The last thing I tried was connecting my batter tender to the battery terminals (after lifting the covers), still nothing. I'm at the end of my competency here. Should I just suck it up and take it to the dealer (fingers crossed that Eurosports  still works on Brammos), or is there a simple solution here?

Victory Empulse / Front fender melted
« on: August 24, 2016, 06:09:55 PM »
Yup so this happened. Come back from work to my parked bike (near a very busy intersection in Center City Philly), try to get going and hear a loud rubbing from the front of the bike. It's barely moving! Pull off, inspect the front and the fender is a melted blob! I was already running late to get home, so this really pissed me off. Ripped the damn thing off and took off. Shoulda probably held on to it as a keepsake or something. Guessing a bus idled nearby for a while and the heat melted the plastics.

Soo...anyway, does anyone have a spare front fender they want to sell me?

Brammo Empulse / Tire wear
« on: August 18, 2016, 03:13:51 PM »
Something that crossed my mind recently. Just crossed the 4,000 mile threshold and the stock Contis are still kicking ass. By the look of it, I have another 2-3,000 miles easy. And these are pretty sticky tires, which tend not to go past 3-4,000 miles usually. What are others experience with tire wear? Do you think it has anything to do with how the power is delivered to the ground? I mean, these are not exactly light bikes.

Off Topic / DigiNow Supercharger
« on: October 14, 2015, 11:19:17 AM »
Wasn't sure if this belonged in the Empulse section or off-topic, but I guess it's more of a general interest story. Would it work as plug and play for the Empulse? Remove the 3.3 kW stock charger, pop this baby in, and double/triple your charging speed (depending on the charging station)? $3k ain't cheap, but I wonder how much the stock charger cost for the Empulse. Might work as a $1k factory upgrade, perhaps. It's exciting to see progress in this area though.

I trailered my 2014 Empulse R about 1600 miles combined there and back to Little Switzerland, NC, Asheville, NC and finally Robbinsville, NC to ride some of the choicest twisties on the East Coast. Combined I rode about 230 miles in 4 days. All killer, almost no filler.

The trailer setup:

Overlooking Blue Ridge Parkway.

Recharging for the next day:

Longest ride was about 75 miles with a re-charge along the way, brought the charger just in case

Ended up re-charging at a community college, fast charger worked great!

Finally made it to the Dragon!

Killboy had a fast charger too, definitely needed after getting my runs in :)

Speaking of Killboy, a few action shots:

I might try to put some words together about the whole experience, but figure I'd share some pics in the meantime :)

Brammo Empulse / Empulse Parts Fiche
« on: September 16, 2015, 05:19:02 PM »
Hey guys, is there an Empulse parts fiche out there somewhere? I have a bit of an oil leak on my bike and it looks like it's the left gasket. Just wondering if I can order the part ahead of time, so when I bring the bike in for inspection the part's already there (and if that's not the issue, I'm assuming the gasket is not crazy expensive).

Brammo Empulse / Trolled a Gixxer
« on: September 03, 2015, 09:01:44 PM »
Went for a little night spin of my local loop. Coming back to the freeway, I'm at a light and an early 2000s GSX-R rolls up next to me. Guy's in full leathers, Kriega backpack, which is rare enough around here. Looks over and goes "Hey never seen one of those in person, it looks pretty cool". I go, "Thanks, but yours has a little more power". He laughs and responds "A little?". I give him a big smile and go, "Yeah, a little" Light turns green and I crack it open in second gear (my bike was at 15% so I'm pretty sure it wasn't even full power), get to the ramp and rail through to the highway. A couple seconds later he comes flying past, but I have zero desire to play tag on a busy-ish highway. Anyway, I never think of a clever thing to say at a moment's notice, so I'm pretty proud of myself  ;D

Brammo News And Views / Brammo dealers- parts and service
« on: August 07, 2015, 03:40:58 PM »
Just called up me local dealer, since my tranny decided to spring a small leak. Figured it's time to do the recall anyway as well as upgrade the firmware. Anyway, it's business as usual for them, said they're still getting parts and warranty reimbursements. In case anyone was wondering.

Brammo Empulse / Empulse charge coupler carrying solution
« on: June 14, 2015, 08:24:00 PM »
Got tired of lugging the bulky J1772 coupler in my messenger back every time I wanted to take it with me, so decided to see if the Kriega US-10 tail bag would work. Turns out it fits perfectly, with room for some miscellaneous tidbits:

Off Topic / Talk to me like I'm stupid- L2 charging infrastructure
« on: June 08, 2015, 12:01:27 PM »
I've had my Empulse for 6 months now and only used an L2 charger once. Most of my trips have been in town, or to visit the rents where I can "top-off" at their garage. The one time I used a J1772 outlet, I researched on Plugshare and found a free charger far enough to work for a longer ride (about 90 miles total). What I'm having problems with is differentiating between Chargepoint, Blink and other providers. Do you need to have a separate account to use each? For example, I activated the Chargepoint card that came with the bike, but when I tried to use it at what showed up as a Chargepoint outlet in the app, no amount of waving the card did anything (and the outlet was labeled as something else). And why the hell can't you just pay with a credit card at these things anyway?

Anyway, I searched, didn't find the answers I was looking for, so hence this post. Keep in mind, I'm on the east coast, where our infrastructure is not as robust, so the ability to be able to plan ahead confidently is pretty important. So looking for some best practices that folks have developed with their experience.

Victory Empulse / IOM Thread
« on: June 05, 2015, 04:11:35 PM »
Place to discuss Victory's IOM TT effort. First practice session is in the books, looks like the average speed was 105 mph, which is a little disappointing tbh.
