Brammo Empulse / Re: Battery communication service cable
« on: May 10, 2021, 07:16:09 AM »
I measured the connector that I ordered and tested and I can confirmed that the thread is 12mm. I found the exact item that I bought : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/32844548144.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27426c37nPUxEw
I took a "straight", "8 pin", "female".

Sorry it was not GX16 but 12 ! Finally the good keyword was more M12 cable or M12 connector.

I just finished the replacement of the o-ring on the motor and also replaced the seal on the back of the motor (the flat one between the motor and the plastic one : made a custom one).

The O-ring I used is a 83X2,5 and I used EPDM (rubber for roofing) to make the other one.

I will tell in a few weeks/month if the leak problem is gone for good :)

Indeed I gathered all the parts but never build the cable. This topic give me motivation to finally do it.

Regarding the Molex connector I bought it on Aliexpress, the magic keyword is GX16 ;) I test fit it in a battery module to validate that it was the right connector.

Hackshack forgot to mention that you also need a 12V power supply but I think he can be forgiven regarding his really detailed post  8)

Good luck :)

Hello!
I have a 2014 Empulse R  with a problem, but I live in the Azores Islands, in the middle of North Atlantic, therefore I have no tecnical support here.
Can you help me ?

It stopped working and the display shows "system failure s217".

This s217 error is not listed in the manual.

Does anybody have an idea how to solve this?
Thanks!

You should start a new thread about this. I don't know what this code is but you should start to diagnosis things one by one.

Brammo Empulse / 3D scan of the Empulse
« on: February 12, 2020, 04:23:25 PM »
Hi everyone,

does anyone had the idea or have the possibility to 3D scan our beloved Empulse ?  I am thinking of adding a from fairing from a Ninja 650r for example but it requires to change the headlight. So I thought, why not reusing the current headlight and design a fairing around ?

Do you know what fork we have?  There's like 10 of them to choose from O_o'
It is a RAC 43 if I remember correctly.

Brammo Empulse / Re: Brammo Empulse - tipps before buying

If the bike has been stored with about 70% of battery its a good new. It is better for long term storage to have a not full battery, obviously empty battery is worse but 70% is ideal I think !

Like Brammofan said ask the seller to charge the bike and plugged for 24h minimum, 48h would be better to charge and balance the cells. While the bike is charging you can push the two buttons on the dash board simultaneously and you will have the "balance menu". You will see the highest voltage cell and the lowest. The values should be close, take a picture and post it here ideally.

I JonathanK and welcome here.

Hard to tell how reliable it as, there is not much bike in circulation and few have a lot of kilometers. Mine has ~18000 km and I had to change the battery bus bars that where oxidized (now stainless steal), the rear wheel bearing, the front suspensions o-ring, the chain and normal maintenance.

I would say that my battery suffered from the problem I had with the bus bar because it was deeply discharge for several months :(. When I am at around 60% of battery, if I accelerate fully for several seconds in sport mode, I get a battery low warning (voltage drop). Beside that the range is still the same, around 100km of cool driving, 75km when driving hard but no more than 110km (I am 1m79 for 95kg, I think it matters).

Also I have a oil/coolant leak at the motor, it's not a big deal, but not convenient. If the one you are looking at do not have the leaking, its a good find :)

If I were you I would check for this leak and do an almost full discharge of the battery to check the range approximately and good acceleration around 50%, 60% to see if you still have all power from the batteries.

Everything else could be done by classic mechanic and should not worry you too much. The electronic would be the main failure point but except for error code on the dashboard you will never know if its going to fail.

Brammo Empulse / Empulse software and cables
« on: October 05, 2019, 07:25:09 AM »
Let's start a topic where we could share our findings on the software and cables side.

I start with this : https://mega.nz/#F!V6J1nArS!siHe7eJkhPL-9cjuYVa7cQ
There is battery diagnostic tools, Motor Controller Software (alignment of encoder and error codes reading) and some manuals. There is also the wiring diagram for the different cables. I have all the parts required to build the battery cable but haven't found the time to build it yet.

Don't brick your bike !
