Bikes For Sale Or Auction / Enertia Plus 2013 for sale: Amsterdam, NL
« on: August 05, 2020, 08:29:07 AM »
Hi all,

the moment that I feared, postponed and try to ignore has arrived anyway: I'm getting rid of my Enertia Plus.

It was at the workshop for the last half year, after fitting a new chain and front sprocket. After putting it back together, the bike doesn't run anymore but shows a red warning icon on the dash after starting and turning the throttle.
Dashboard display is broken so we can't see what error message it shows, if any.

If anyone here is interested in using it for parts, or thinks they can revive it with the right hardware, software and determination, please contact me and we can arrange something, for a reasonable offer.

Currently the bike is at De Motorzaak, Amsterdam.

Hi,

my Enertia+ had its chain and front sprocket replaced at my local dealer, but after they put everything back together the bike won't drive.
It shows a red warning light, but as my dashboard display is not working anymore, we can't see what the error message is.
The dealer doesn't have the original Brammo Enertia+ diagnostics software anymore, and the Victory version doesn't work on Enertias.
Does someone here by any chance know how to get a copy?
Or perhaps software to read the logs on the USB stick, error messages may be in there as well?

It would be a shame to have to scrap the bike because of this.

thanks, Frank

Brammo Enertia Plus / Sprocket replacement parts
« on: November 01, 2018, 03:40:37 PM »
Hi all,

my Enertia Plus is still going strong, but my local (ex-)Brammo dealer thinks it would be good to replace the sprockets because my chain is rattling a lot lately.
It seems that the chain tension is not constant and he thinks the sprockets are to blame. But he doesn't have contacts anymore that can help him get spare parts.  Does anyone here know what make the sprockets on the Enertia Plus are? The front one is pretty small I'm told (but hard to see because it's inside the enclosure), the rear one is obviously extremely big. So not standard motorcycle parts I guess.

Thanks for any info!

Brammo Enertia Plus / Dashboard issue
« on: January 18, 2016, 03:47:25 PM »
Last Friday, my beloved Enertia+ started acting up again. This time it's the dashboard. When it starts, all lights are on and the display is backlit (but not always with the all pixels on black as it should). Then after a few seconds, the dash looks like the picture below:

Note: this one was taken with the kickstand down so that indicator should be lit.

The bike rides like nothing's wrong, but after another while it will look like this:

That's everything OFF, including the green flashing leds on top. Except for the speedo needle.

Funny thing is, that earlier this fall, it was just the other way round (the speedo needle would be stuck on 0 while all other displays were working just fine).

It's kind of scary to ride the bike with no information whatsoever on SoC, motor temp, or possible error messages, but I do it anyway.

Any ideas? I suspect the cold (it's around freezing point here) and the fact that it seems not to be exactly waterproof, judging by the ever-present condensation behind the glass.

Another (related?) thing is that the horn also often doesn't work. But that started a longer time ago.

Brammo Enertia Plus / System Fault V58?
« on: November 24, 2014, 02:38:05 PM »
Hi all,

my Enertia Plus is happily riding through the start of winter here in Amsterdam, but today it suddenly showed "SYSTEM FAULT V58" messages, on and off. After a while they went away again. It didn't need a restart, but I was a little too afraid of a breakdown to take the tunnel route to my home.
I can't find that message in the manual. Does anyone have an idea, or experienced that one before?

Brammo Enertia Plus / Rear end replacement
« on: September 19, 2014, 02:49:05 PM »
Last week I had my Enertia Plus serviced because the chain was rattling a lot. The new Brammo dealer in Amsterdam thought it needed to be replaced (after 6000 km, about 3700 miles !?). And while they were at it, my rear tire looked like it could be replaced too... A bit soon in my opinion but I'm not an expert and don't want to risk my safety so I let them go ahead.

Apparently there has also been some sort of recall because of the rear part of the Plus, the part that holds the indicators and the licence plate. It was replaced at Brammo's request and now it looks like this:

It's a bit awkward to photograph because of my side bags, but I think you can see the extra black construction underneath. That wasn't there before. And that big hole on the side wasn't there before either.
I hope this solves the problem that I've mentioned here before, when some bolts had gone missing and the rear almost fell off.

Anyway, the dealer took good care of my bike, even cleaned and polished it and now it looks as good as new again.

Brammo Enertia Plus / Tail assembly loose: losing bolts
« on: March 15, 2014, 08:32:36 AM »
Yesterday I noticed that the rear end of my Enertia Plus was wobbly. On closer inspection I saw that a bolt is missing. In the time that I own the bike (a year and three months) this is the second time a bolt's fallen out.

I've already asked my dealer about the size of replacement bolts, but with @shinysideup's scary story about his tail nearly falling off in mind, I think another warning can't hurt: check to see if these bolts are still fastened regularly!

There's four of them; two on each side under the taillight. Arrows mark the ones that had gone missing on mine. The bottom one I could replace with something I had in my toolchest, but the one that's missing now must be shorter and you'd need some L-shaped wrench to screw it in.

Brammo Enertia Plus / Cold weather and regen
« on: December 10, 2013, 03:38:41 PM »
Some time ago I started noticing that my Plus doesn't always slow down when I let go of the throttle. It seems odd that it sometimes does, and sometimes doesn't work but I'm beginning so suspect that it has to do with the temperature of the batteries.
The Plus doesn't warn about regen being off (contrary to what I saw in Gavin's post on his Empulse) but that post got me thinking.

Lately I've driven a lot with the dashboard set to "detail view" (don't know what it's officially called - you can get it by pressing the start button for 10 seconds or so, when the bike's live). It looks like this:

It seems that if Tmin is below 10C, regen doesn't work, but above 10C it does work. (That's 50F for those on the other side of the Atlantic).
When the regen is working, besides feeling the bike slowing down a lot more, also the number at I: goes positive, indicating current flowing into the batteries instead of the other way. In the picture, even while the bike's standing still, I is negative, perhaps because of the battery heaters being on?

Also, I found that speeding in cold weather, quickly cools the batteries. It may need something to cover the bike's air intake, like in the old days on a Citroën 2CV:

Brammo News And Views / I'm in the newspaper!
« on: November 24, 2013, 07:39:17 AM »

My wife tipped the editor of this weekly item in the Dutch national (but mostly Amsterdam focused) newspaper "Het Parool" about Amsterdammers and their favorite transport, so I had an interview and a photo shoot (in the rain) some two weeks ago. Yesterday it was published.

A translation for those of you that aren't Dutch:

"My old bike made a lot of noise and smelled bad. I felt bad about that more and more. In the Netherlands I was the first buyer of this type electric motorcycle from America, but I wasn't allowed to ride it because the model was not approved yet. I had to arrange that with the dealer at the RDW.
The bike doesn't vibrate. On a smooth road it feels like floating on air. No, it's not completely silent. But not everyone hears you coming, so perhaps I use my horn a bit more. If you need an ego-boost, all you have to do is park it on a square somewhere. For instance, it doesn't have an exhaust. Immediately people approach you with questions.
In the city you can ride 120 kilometers before the batteries are empty, on the highway 80. The maximum speed is limited to 110 kilometers an hour, otherwise the batteries are empty too soon. You can't really charge on the road, because it takes about six hours.
I use the bike to ride to work and back, from IJburg to the Western Gas Factory area. The main advantage for me is that you can ride through the Piet Hein Tunnel, a scooter is forbidden there and you'd have to make a detour.
The startup-problems will be over, I thought. But in the beginning I got errors when starting, like with a computer. It is a riding computer, in fact. When the motor shut down in the tunnel, I thought it was becoming too dangerous. The factory sent people from Germany to fix it. It turned out that the software wasn't calibrated right, now that's settled.
At home I charge once a week, with green electricity. I feel a lot less guilty when I get on the bike."

Brammo Enertia Plus / Throttle/regen issue
« on: August 12, 2013, 02:52:16 PM »
Last weekend I did a short errand into the city and at some point I started feeling like I had to brake more than usual when approaching traffic lights, with the throttle released.
It seems that the throttle often doesn't reach 0 so the engine braking doesn't always kick in. Also, sometimes when stopped, the power display shows 0.3 or 0.8 kW instead of 0. And I can hear the motor spinning softly then too. It's supposed to be totally silent, at least I remember that it used to be like that.

Does anyone else have experience with an issue like this? I don't know if it's relevant, but when I first noticed this issue, I stopped by the roadside and restarted the bike. Then it came on with a "TWIST THROTTLE TO 0" message and an S65 error. But luckily those errors went away after some restarts.

Brammo Enertia Plus / Spot the differences!
« on: May 22, 2013, 01:13:03 PM »

A week ago my bike was delivered back from Germany. It was very well taken care of by Marcin, he got rid of all error messages and I received these side bags from Brammo for free to make up for all my troubles. To show off my bike in all its glory, I tried to mimick the promo shot that was made a few years ago, shortly after the Plus was announced. The real thing looks a lot like the promotion prototype, but some things are different. See if you can spot them all!

Brammo Enertia Mods / Daylight Running Lights - an idea
« on: April 08, 2013, 03:03:14 PM »

Could something like this work? And be legal (in EU)? More and more cars are getting similar daylight running lights so why don't I see any on motorcycles?
My idea is to have a halo of leds like that, instead of the normal headlight (that's always on). It should be switched off for when you really need headlights for illuminating the road (so then the leds are off and the normal headlight's on). But the high beam should still work as normal, and I suppose the parking light should also be on normally (because I guess it's required by EU law to be in there).
I understand there's little juice to be saved by switching to leds, but even if there's not a single amp saved, I think it looks a lot cooler.
I've looked around on the internet and haven't really found something that exists already... any thoughts?

Brammo Enertia Plus / Cold weather charging
« on: February 23, 2013, 11:17:09 AM »
I've posted about cold weather charging before, but it keeps bothering me.
Charging right after a ride is apparently the solution to avoid "BATTERIES TOO COLD" messages, because the batteries are still warm then. But even then, when charging in temperatures just above 0ºC, I can't get my bike charged to 100% because the batteries will cool down even while charging. And after an hour or so, charging stops and the "BATTERIES TOO COLD" message comes back. It doesn't seem to help to just leave the bike connected to the wall socket and let the battery heating system do it's job. The manual says to charge between temperatures of 0ºC (32ºF) and 45ºC (113ºF).
Maybe I'm the only idiot driving (and charging) in freezing winter conditions, or does someone else have experience with cold weater charging? Could it help to cover my bike to keep it warmer while charging? Any other ideas?

Brammo Enertia Plus / Service Required
« on: February 03, 2013, 02:28:49 PM »
There's quite a number of stories on this forum about the high standards of service that Brammo maintains (like engineers flying around the US to fix your bike on your doorstep), and I always wondered if they would do the same here in Europe. Now I get the chance, being one of the first Enertia Plus owners in Europe, to see if Brammo can live up to their reputation! :o

Last wednesday, when the sun was shining and my son was at school, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to beat Gavin at his game of producing high quality Enertia Plus Pictures In the Wild... but when I started my bike, it threw "Service Req'd S83" errors while indicating wildly changing motor temperatures:

And when that error went away after some restarts, it started throwing S85 errors (the same ones I had right after I had received my licence plate, which at the time Brammo thought were caused by the freezing weather).

I thought this may have been due to my leaving it outside overnight in the stormy rain, but after contacting Brammo Service (as the manual states in the error handling section), and sending them some log files and even video's of me starting it up, Brammo's service department decided they need to come over and fix something inside my bike.
I've not yet received a date, but hopefully some time next week Marcin (Head of European Service) will come from Germany to Amsterdam to get everything working again...
