According to an article in the business section of my newspaper, written by Chris Wickham of Reuters, scientists in Germany have developed a new coolant fluid for use in cooling EV batteries (and I assume also motors). It is called CryoSolplus and is claimed to have three times the cooling potential of water, which would result in a smaller coolant tank and (I assume) radiator. This would allow tighter packing of battery cells according to researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental Safety and Energy Technology in Oberhausen. The coolant is a mixture of water, paraffin, antifreeze and a stabilization agent. They plan to test the coolant on an experimental vehicle and believe that a coolant system based on CryoSolplus should only cost $60 to $120 more than a system based upon your typical antifreeze mixture.
