Great eSuperSport race at Sonoma!
« on: May 04, 2014, 10:39:48 AM »
Wow! What a great weekend of racing with the AHRMA and eMotoRacing crew! We've done a lot of racing over the past several years and I must admit that this was one of the most fun couple of days of racing we've had.  It was awesome to watch 6 electric bikes (5 Brammo Empulses, 1 Zero S) battle with each other and the gas bikes throughout the race.

Here's a great on-board video of Friday's race from Ricky Orlando's Empulse R:

Shelina Moreda rode my personal Empulse R (with her signature pink body panels) to a hard fought 3rd place finish on Friday.  This was a great "shake down" and inaugural race for the bike as I've sold it to a racer in Florida who intends to race it with AHRMA beginning with one of the next couple of races.  I'll see if I can convince him to contribute here.  Shelina ran a 2:05.7 lap in the race on a nearly stock production bike and Ricky Orlando managed a 2:06.3 on lap 6. Very impressive and competitive!

The 650+ ft-lbs of rear wheel torque of the Empulse R in 1st gear is a valuable weapon in an 8-lap "sprint" race coming off the start line!  :o

Eric ended the 2 day event with 2 wins after clearing off at the front on our factory TTX bike.   He also managed to finish 5th overall on Thursday and 4th on Friday among the 19 bikes on the grid, racing with Sound of Thunder twins and Next Gen Superbikes. His consistent laps of 1:57.9 - 1:59.06 on Friday would have had him challenging (or at least closely tailing) Steve Atlas for the win here on the RR prototype back in 2011. Note the new tail section on the bike - mostly designed to provide a more solid surface to transmit feedback so that Eric could "feel" what the rear tire was doing.  Eric reports that the TTX is now at its best from a performance, balance, and overall riding enjoyment perspective.  8)

Eric had a lonely race, but the gap gave him the clear track needed to focus on his riding and what the bike was doing well (Eric said it was magical through the long left hand "carousel") and what needed further improvement for the future.

We ran the TTX in a special Spec32 livery for Eric at this race as he also picked up his very own production Spec32 bike for riding around LA.  More on that to follow.  Also... Icon's cooked up some new liveries for the bikes, so expect to see this bike in new colors soon.  I think the new designs are the best yet!  Stay tuned.

Thanks, Gavin.  Yeah, it was a great time.  Everyone ended the races with a smile on their face, which doesn't happen often!  ;)

Here's the results sheet on MyLaps.com...

http://www.mylaps.com/en/classification/3042960?perClass=1

There's a couple inaccuracies though:

1. Chris Fillmore WAS in fact racing even though it lists him as a DNS (Did Not Start).  I'm guessing he ran without a transponder so that his competitors couldn't access his lap times.

2. Ricky Orlando finished in 4th directly behind Shelina and Arthur, so I'm not sure why they've got him listed in last place.  Maybe they didn't pick up his transponder on the final lap.  Andrew Cowell finished in 5th.

3. Ryan Bifford (Zero S) was lapped twice by the leader (Chris Fillmore) which meant his race was over on lap 6 while others were still circulating.  Perhaps the fact that Chris was not running a transponder created this confusion for timing and scoring. He finished in 6th.

So you sold your Empulse? Making room to be the first person with an Empulse RS?

Ah... you noticed!  Yes - I sold my 2013 R "for the cause" to help get another bike out there on the grid.  I had already done some BRT upgrades with the OZ wheels and Barnett Kevlar clutch, so it made sense for the bike to go to someone who could use them.  As a matter of fact, I'm making way for a 2014 R, which I hope to get my hands on within the next couple of weeks.  I plan on doing a similar amount of modification that I did to my 2013.  As always, I'll keep the group here updated on my progress.  What's an Empulse RS?   ???

Probably just a typo on my part....

I was kinda thinking about an earlier thread...

http://brammoforum.com/index.php?topic=2398.msg18250#msg18250

Went back and realized it was just me combining poor detective work and lots of wishful thinking on my part...

I'm getting old...I was, "wasn't there talk of making the RR for the public?" Looked around and found, yes there was talk...all by me.

Sigh.

Actually, I like Empulse SS (for SuperSport)...but might have too much of a Nazi connotation. Of course the Nazi's can't "own" SS forever.

Eric was hella fast...Was he riding the TTX or the RR?
I need to go re-read this thread....

(edit: ok, the TTX. Nice. When do the RRs race this year?)

Looks like Ryan was on a Zero MX.

That was the Supermoto race on Saturday.  Ryan raced a Zero S in the AHRMA eMoto race on Friday.

Brammo even loaned him a helmet!

I thought it was interesting that he was wearing an Icon helmet featured heavily during Steve Atlas's time with Brammo...now I know why....

It must be a blast getting to race on a motor you designed.

Brian, when do you get to race? : )

I agree!  It was great to have Ryan out there.  Ha! I would love to race, but still working on the wife...  ;)
