Car and Driver travels 1000 miles driving 11 EV's
« on: December 28, 2021, 10:18:36 AM »
Here is an interesting and entertaining article. Last summer Car and Driver magazine took 11 EV cars and went on a 1000-mile trip across four states to check how feasible it was to travel long distances quickly with the current state of electric cars and charging stations available. Here is a link to the article, which contains a YouTube video should you rather watch the trip instead of reading about it (or you could do both):

Yikes - at the end of the article they asked all the drivers what they would do differently if they were to drive the EV 1000 again. They all said, "drive a gas car."

That was an unexpected "punch line".  :(

They should have thrown a gas car in there too maybe one economical like a Prius and one not so economical like something 15mpg.

For sure the EV public charging infrastructure has to get better and cheaper.  I thin one thing the neglected to mention was the cost to charge their vehicles.  Some of the DC fastchargers are very expensive to use.  I know that some of the vehicles might have accesss to freecharging but I think they should have straight paid to charge their cars.

That would have been some useful information in an funny and entertaining article.

Haha another interesting one would be if they had a hydrogen fuel cell powered car if they did this out in California could probably do this.  The FCEVs get really good range and it only take a few minutes to refuel them.  They would give the Tesla a run for it's money.  It would test the hydrogen infrastructure out which sucks more than the electric charging.

That might have worked, but they would have to stay out of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The H2 station located across from Alice's Restaurant remains a dead duck and a complete waste of money.   >:(  Location, location, location - as the real estate agents say.  ::)
