Here's an efficiency graph for the PMS150, which is similar to the motor used in the Empulse (PMS156 I think?) is the motor used in the Enertia RR. Note that efficiency is largely invariant across the RPM range. A CVT will probably hurt efficiency slightly, as you will lose a little power vs direct drive -- and the bike weighs a little more. 20 lbs?
Power, of course, can be helped by a CVT at both low (torque-limited) and high rpms (power/rpm limited). But again, you have to balance that against the weight increase.. I'd rather add batteries (more power / range) than a CVT.
