Ariell Atom
« on: July 28, 2011, 09:47:11 AM »
As I recall Brammo started out wanting to convert the Ariel Atom to an electric vehicle, before deciding that producing their own motorcycles was a simpler idea. After being featured on Top Gear for a couple of episodes, the Atom has been laying low for a while. Well they are back and thinking about making 3-wheel motorcycles. Read about it here:

Great catch, Richard.  I forwarded the link along to Brammo.

Ever since I saw and read about the Ariel Atom, I have waited for someone to convert (or manufacture) an electric Ariel Atom.  The wait continues.

The Wrightspeed X1 is a production-intent electric Ariel Atom. The guy behind it built one prototype and then ran out of cash when the economy crashed in 2008. It looks like he's now trying to sell digital drivetrains .. same sort of thing that Mission and Tesla are angling for.

Race Car Replicas has a atom-like open wheel kit car called the Superlite Roadster. There's an electric version called the DetroitEV EL-R, though the linked prototype uses a netgain warp9 motor and lead acid batteries (ie, state of the art in EV tech as of early 2000s). 1200 lb chassis with everything except motor / controller / batteries is around $22k.

Palatov Motorsport repurposed one of its older track prototype chassis for an electric prototype racer called the dp1/e. It's not nearly as fast as their higher-performance prototypes.. which means it's still pretty damn quick.

Very cool to watch those vids and see them kick ICE cars' asses.  I had no idea these existed.  Thanks!
