More video of the IET.
« on: April 06, 2012, 12:41:55 AM »
Another video from IET's you tube channel:

Looks like they are letting students design and built a trial bike using their transmission to power the bike. I wouldn't have thought that a trial bike would really need a transmission, since those bikes tend to travel from 0 to 20 mph tops. Why would then need gears for that?

In any case, you can enjoy lots of video of their lovely transmission.

If you have a multi-gear transmission then you can select a gear that will take you 0-20 mph. Or you can swap gears for a slightly faster section that will take you 0-30 mph. Or a slightly faster section that will take you up to 40 mph. Etc.

If you know that the only speed the bike will ever go during the race event is 20 mph, then you can install sprockets on a direct drive to support that speed. But if there are sections with varying speed, then a multi-speed transmission has some benefit.
