Apple's North Carolina datacenter powered by solar
« on: September 17, 2012, 12:13:09 PM »

Apple is powering their east coast datacenter with a 20 MW sun-tracking solar farm on 100 acres of land. GigaOm reports that Apple is building a second 20 MW solar farm nearby. Engadget claims "initial reports indicated that ... the solar farm would still only be supplying 60 percent of the sites requirements", with the other 40% coming from a biogas fuel cell plant. GigaOm claims this is the world's largest privately owned solar farm.

Impressive. Here's a 5mW, 25,000 panel install atop a water reservoir in San Francisco:

I'd love to see these surrounded by Empulses at feeding time.
