Epic Torq EV roadster video review

Here is an interesting 7-minute video review of the Epic Torq EV reverse-trike roadster vehicle:

I note the builder seems to like PM motors instead of AC motors due to their lower cost and their ability to be rebuilt and modified by hobbyists. Personally, I am willing to pay more for an AC motor so that I don't have to replace brushes and rewind armatures.  ;)

(Caveat - I haven't listened to the article, but I did notice this comment above...)

Is it really PM vs AC?  PM is permanent magnet and AC is alternating current and the non-R Empulse uses a PMAC motor.  I'm not sure about rewinding armatures, but PM doesn't seem to require brushes...does it?

He didn't say anything about a PM DC motor ... just that it was DC.

There's PM AC and PM DC motors... they're not the same thing, although they're both PM motors. PM DC has magnets in the stator and windings in the armature (rotor) and is mechanically commutated (has brushes). PM AC (or BLDC depending on how it's driven) has magnets on the rotor, and windings on the stator and is electrically commutated (no brushes).
