What would a proper Zero v Brammo comparison consist of?

Hey guys,

Just for the sake of conversation; I was day dreaming the other day, as usual, about someone doing a proper Empulse vs S/SR comparison.

I'd like 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, track times, and a street review just like the mags do for everyone else. I'd also like a few of the different versions of these bikes in the test. Such as the Empulse and Empulse R, as well as both the S and SR. However Zero makes it harder with the booster pack option. As it seems to allow more power but adds not insignificant weight up high.

What are your thoughts, and wants?

I'd only trust a dyno. Other tests are too subjective or riddled with uncontrolled variables.

But the dyno wouldn't account for weight.

Riding both at once with similar SOC would give fair results, IMO.

A real dyno DOES account for weight.

I agree on both sides.  Dyno to show what each is capable of; take the time to gen P:W for the readers, so they can see what the two are doing differently.  Any ICE shootout includes both weights and RWHP, no reason to not do the de facto standard for e-bikes (unless someone has a better method).  Calculating P:W just makes readability easier and completes the puzzle for the audience.

Farasis claims 4C continuous discharge, 7C 10 second.

At 50% SOC, the cells sag to ~3.47 volts under 4C discharge, that's 39 kW for 10 kWh, 49 kW for 12.5 kWh.

Assume 3.3 volts per cell at 7C burst, that's 65 kW for 10 kWh, 81 kW for 12.5 kWh.

The SR might see a little more continuous power from the 12.5 kWh pack, but I think in most cases the motor will reach its thermal limit before the battery pack starts reducing power, at least until the 10 kWh pack is at very low SOC. Maybe if the motor was liquid-cooled..
