It looks like Michael Czysz will not be with us much longer.  :(   Here is his sad story and what he is up to now:

What a well written and inspiring, though somewhat depressing, read. Most could only dream of leaving the legacy that Czysz will. A true pioneer in the industry. He's not gone yet, and I wish him and his family the best.

So sad to read about his situation. Met him a couple of times at the races and he was always a gentleman. Built some beautiful bikes, too.

Motorcycle.com has just published a terrific, informative and well written article about the life of Michael Czysz and his motorcycle riding and development career.  It also includes mention of a new motorcycle hybrid propulsion system that he is currently developing.  This is a great article and I recommend that you read it:

That's a really interesting article. Thanks, Richard.

I was puzzled by this quote, which is in the section about his new design for a hybrid motorcycle:

"Czysz is excited about the opportunity, stating that, despite his hatred of electrics for a street bike, “there are still aspects of electric that are undeniably awesome.” Combine the character and passion of a gas engine with the efficiency and torque from an electric motor, and Czysz predicts a vehicle that can transform motorcycling."

As a guy who has put 20K miles on an Empulse on the streets, enjoying every minute of it, I wonder what's behind his hatred. Obviously, he has a passion for ICE's, but hatred from a guy who designed and produced a ground breaking electric racer seems inexplicably odd to me.

I noticed that comment, too.  And I agree with your sentiment, Shinysideup.  Maybe Michael just wasn't feeling very well when he made that statement.   :(   I am also very confused regarding what his "hybrid" concept might be.  I can't imagine what he is describing from his statements in the article.   ???
