Energica Ego test rides!
« on: June 10, 2014, 09:16:40 AM »
Public test rides for the Energica Ego electric superbike!  Even if you don't go for a test ride, it would be sweet to have a critical mass of electric motorcycle riders around to answer random questions.

That's a beautiful bike.  The nearest test drive is 500 miles away.  Don't think I'll make it.  It will be interesting to see if they can really get it to market for $25K with ABS.  I'm a little confused at the claimed range though.  It says 62 miles at 62 MPH.  The Empulse is close to that with a smaller battery pack.

The Empulse is probably at or over 62 miles of range @ 62 mph.

CRP says for the Energica:
150 kM @ 80 km/h – 190 km @ 60 km/h – 100 km @ 100 km/h – 50 km ON RACE TRACK

93 miles @ 50 mph - 118 miles @ 37 mph - 62 miles @ 62 mph - 31 miles on race track

Surprising to see a drop of 31 miles (33%) from a 12 mph increase from 50 mph.

Zero S loses 17% range from 55 to 70 mph.
Zero DS loses 20% range from 55 to 70 mph.
Zero FX loses 32% range from 55 to 70 mph.

FX is geared a little shorter than DS / S, so it's possible that worse aerodynamics + motor inefficiencies lead to poor 70 mph range. Possibly the Energica motor is simply inefficient at higher speeds.

There were a round of first ride reports last fall, the motorcycle.com article is one of them. I haven't seen anything new in a bit.
