In electric vehicles with transmissions that allow selection between multiple gears, an issue arises if too low a gear is quickly selected at high speeds, resulting in very high regenerative voltages as the motor spins above maximum rated revolutions per minute (RPM). This leads to damage of the vehicle. Hence, the patent application WO 2014113797 A1 entitled Method and apparatus for preventing over-shifting on electric vehicles talks about an apparatus and a method for preventing downshifting of gears in electric vehicles with multi-speed gearbox / transmissions.
The patent application WO 2014093759 A1 entitled High efficiency, low coolant flow electric motor coolant system talks about a fluid-cooled electric motor that includes a tubular-shaped motor housing having a plurality of channels through which a coolant flows. The channels are spaced apart from each other in an annular arrangement around the motor housing and extend through the housing in an axial direction. Each of the channels is surrounded by a portion of the housing forming walls of the channel forming a cooling surface area.
