Carbon Fiber Belt Drive Instead of Chain?
« on: August 02, 2010, 08:20:49 PM »
One of the great things about an e-bike (the greatest which is not using a fossil fuel to power it) is the ability to enjoy the ride without the usual motorcycle noise. Besides the fan noise (which maybe this will be gotten rid of in the future) the chain noise is still there.

I'm wondering if Brammo has considered a carbon fiber belt drive. There are on some other motorcycles now. They have the advantage of not needing to be lubricated and are quieter.

Gates, a company here in the States makes some systems for motorcycle companies.

If Brammo does not go to a belt, how about a retrofit after market kit?

Here is a recent thread about the belt drive vs. the chain drive:

Great minds think alike.  ;D

It is a topic that comes up a lot, so there seems to be some merit in the idea.

I looked up some after-market kits online tonight and it looks costly and difficult, but not impossible, as a modification. A few different kits were made to specifically fit popular ICE chain drive motorcycles.

Thanks guys. Sorry for the double threading. I did do a search but I was obviously not using the correct key words.

I posted over in that thread but I'll say it here as well so maybe some Brammo execs hear it.

$500 more for a belt instead of a chain is an easy decision for me. Quieter, fewer lubes?

I'd easily pay the $500 for a belt drive.

I think your thread title is better for people looking to find out why a belt drive is not on a Brammo....yet.

We tend to switch subjects a lot in threads, and I am going to try to make a better effort to start new threads when there is a major spin in how the subject evolves.

If we get more Brammo owners and potential Brammo owners to comment in a specific poll, it might convice Brammo to take action or not on a belt drive option.

Good idea. My poll vote until there is an official one: Yes on a belt even if $500.
