Emflux from India
« on: March 28, 2018, 06:30:43 PM »
Found this in the current issue of MCN:

"The Emflux One is a new e-bike with a claimed top speed of 120 mph, range up to 120 miles, and is priced under $10,000. This Indian startup put its first electric sport bike prototype on display at the 2018 Auto Expo in New Delhi.

The Emflux one is powered by a single-speed, 80 horsepower, air-cooled motor and a 9.7 kWh cylinder Samsung lithium-ion cell-type battery. The motor controller limits max torque to 55 pound-feet, and max power to 71 horsepower. Emflux claims a 36-minute charge time via a WRP fast charger, or three hours from a 15A wall charger.

The bike’s claimed weight is a remarkable 373 lbs. It features a tube-steel trellis frame, a single-sided trellis swingarm, Brembo ABS brakes with regenerative braking, optional Ohlins suspension, a 6.8-inch TFT touch display, dual front and single rear cameras, built-in navigation system, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity and a custom-designed Emflux NEXT user interface, all built around an NVIDIA Jetson TK1 (Tegra) embedded CPU, with realtime vehicle diagnostics.

It’s geared for 120 mph, and 60 mph in 3 seconds… If all the claims hold up in the final product, this should be one amazing bike.”

Definitely sounds too good to be true.  It sounds more like they are tolling for investor dollars and customer deposits (here we go again, Brammo and Tesla) to me. Charging a 9.7 kWh battery pack from a 15 amp outlet in only 3 hours is definitely wishful thinking, based upon the charging times it takes to recharge my Zero at 13 amps.  Plus, I bet that the Samsung batteries cost a good portion of that $10,000, not leaving all that much left for the motor, chassis, suspension and all of the fancy stuff mentioned that are said to be included on the Emflux.   ::)
current bikes: 2018 16.6 kWh Zero S, 2011 Royal Enfield Bullet 500 Classic, 2009 BMW F650GS, 2007 BMW R1200R, 2005 Triumph T-100 Bonneville, 2002 Yamaha FZ1 and a 1978 Honda Kick 'N Go Senior.

I had the same opinion about "too good to be true."

But maybe in India the dollars are smaller?

In India the standard voltage (3 phase) rating is ~220v-240v and at 15 amps the charging rate is about 3.3kw so 3 hours to charge a 9.7kw battery pack is right.

A yamaha fz-07 is approximately $10,000 inclusive of all import duties. This one would have to import batteries, the motor and related components. So maybe $10k is not too much of a stretch. (maybe?)

I'm not certain about currently but ~2013 Samsung was working on getting LiON production up in India and S.Africa.  If they managed to get the former online and was still currently active that would remove import duties on their power source.
