Good thing I just bought a Rav4 Prime and not a Bolt, I should remind myself not to park next to a Bolt or else my Rav4 might go up in flames when it does.

It seems like the common thread between the bulk of these battery fires is the battery manufacturer---LG Chem.  Several other vehicle manufacturers like Kia have had fires with LG batteries.  The issue in the past (along with both Bolt issues) appears to be manufacturing defects within the battery itself leading to internal separator failure and the resultant "thermal event".  And lets not forget this goes all the way back to the Boeing Dreamliner battery failures which were also a LG module similar to that which was used in the Mitsubishi I-MiEV.

Crikeys!   :o

There's so many of them on the road, this is going to be a massive recall campaign but that's kind of scary what it happens in your garage O_o

So it's a problem with the cells themselves.

Here some more info about the problem:
Quote
GM announced last Friday that it was recalling every Chevrolet Bolt it had ever made, including the new electric utility vehicle model that debuted this year. After a string of fires affected Bolt models, the company traced the problem to two simultaneously occurring defects in the cars

Good on GM for taking care of this.  Looks like every bolt owner is going to get an updated battery pack.
