Aptera video by Kristen Dirksen
« on: October 06, 2021, 12:26:32 PM »
I follow this youtuber and she usually focuses on small, sustainable housing.  Here, she focuses on the Aptera, an electric, solar-powered (also plug in) three-wheeled vehicle.  Aptera has had its share of starts, stops, re-configurations, but I am hopeful they make it to production someday soon.

Thanks for sharing the video.  I think that the Aptera is a really compelling vehicle.  I've been following their progress since the rebirth of the company.  I've been really tempted to reserve one but want to wait to see what the crash test results and reviews are first.  Personally, I think that offering a battery option for 1000 miles of range is overkill, but some buyers may find it appealing.  Five hundred miles of range is probably more than enough for most drivers.

Sure, a two-seater car isn't going to work for everyone, but it would be much better for the environment if manufacturers of electric vehicles would put more effort into efficiency like Aptera.  Another benefit would be reduced cost from having a smaller battery.  Having the solar on the vehicle is really cool too.  I also appreciate the fact that the Aptera has a composite body that isn't going to rust.  That's a major plus for those of us who live in areas with harsh winters and generous use of road salt.

Yes, I also hope that the company is successful.  They've made some major progress in the last year.  I can see the Aptera being popular in Europe and other areas that don't have the truck/SUV obsession that we have here in the United States.
